1For No excuses from me, I've even called Pearson 'bloody stupid' for playing Bell at RB. The poor sod has, in desperation, also played Scott and Weimann back there. Take all the froth away and nobody in their right mind can say we have a squad of doing anything other than avoiding relegation. For that Pearson has credit. I hope he's backed this summer, if he is, October will be judge.
Great result against all the odds (and all the play and chances from the highlights I've seen !) but credit to Nige and the lads for sticking at it. Sometimes you just ride your luck and it seems that's exactly what we did, thanks to Bentley and co.
Confused.com. How can it be a mistake when there is little or no other alternative and even you cannot come up with one?, it can only be a mistake if there is an alternative, i'm sorry from where i'm standing that is an incredibly churlish comment. The difference is Scott, Bell and Weimann played in that unfamiliar role and gave it their best shot as did DaSilva, a pity the same couldn't be said of ODowda. I am happy just to get this season over and done with, get rid of the 'allegedly overpaid wasters' and continue with the success of bringing academy players through and bring some better players and younger players who hopefully give a **** and can be developed. PS:- I suggested Massengo as a right back stop gap, but given his cameo on Saturday maybe not.
To your point, why couldn't Scott, Bell, Massengo or Pring have played there, not our 16 goal top-scoring striker
Scott has played with varying success, Bell had a mare last time out not his fault, Massengo might be an option, Pring is a left back and now our top scorer has 17 goals, I really don’t see the problem, nice emojis though.
Were you not critical of the manager playing Weimann out of position not that long ago?? Just asking!!
I haven’t said I wanted Weimann to play as RWB, I am just pointing out that criticising something that ended as a success is churlish. But same question to you as our right back box is empty, who would you have played there?, just asking. Just for clarity critical after the event after numerous failures.
The top scorer who scored and won the game for us. We rode our luck for once, would I want him to play there much more than is necessary hell no. On previous evidence Vyner could well have cost us the game, he certainly has a long wrap sheet for that over the last 2 seasons. Weimann was ok, my only criticism was he left their most dangerous player Khadra to Cundy too often. Our problem wasn’t at the back it was mainly in midfield, where Williams and James started off ok but couldn’t keep it up, Scott was totally off colour throughout the game, Williams wasted a couple of good opportunities and Semenyo was poor, he went back to his needing an extra touch and that blunts his game for me.
Semenyo was poor IMO because of Weimann's compromise.. I still would have preferred Weimann in his correct position....like you said we rode our luck and the game could well have churned out a different result....If NP had the same selection to choose from, would you play same again going into the next game ?
I would rest Scott. I would give Massengo a start. I suppose the issue now surrounds how fit Kalas is, if he is not fit I would definitely go with Weimann again. I wouldn’t let Vyner anywhere near a start again, he has cost us far too many points already this season. The thing that can never be denied about Weimann is you can ask him to play anywhere on the park and you can guarantee he will give you 100% effort and given he is in the middle of his best ever scoring sequence in his career, he took on the role with a huge smile on his face and not only put in a performance but was still in the right place to score. For me it’s a simple choice given the options open to Pearson.
So apart from the Massengo Scott change, you would go the same, given the same selection choice.. I just thought our balance was all wrong and had it not been for decent saves from Bentley, a poor pen ( soft imo) the aid of the crossbar and the lucky assist, it could easily have been another heavy defeat.. I would fear the outcome if we played that again..
Liability or not, Vyner is more natural there and I would not compromise our top scorer or our best player that presses the oppositions defence. Plus I don't see that Weimann is any better at defending than Vyner. We got lucky Saturday without playing well....Round pegs in square holes rarely works..
Liners turn quicker than Vyner. Vyner is a complete liability when played centrally. He is worse at RB. RWB is beyond credibility.
