To be fair I think Mayenda tries to go round the keeper to the right at the last second, but it was executed poorly. I wouldn't have said the headless chicken method was his usual style he's normally good at getting his head up, no doubt he's been kicking himself since and will be keen to make amends.
Don't think that we will get any definitive news for a few days. That swelling needs to go down before any meaningful investigation can commence. In the meantime, being Sunderland supporters, we will fear the worst. It's football, take the good with the bad, it's an opportunity for someone else to step up, hopefully someone does. Just hope it's a short period out an that he comes back strong.
Gutted to concede at the death, and to lose Riggy. But take the point and crack on. Time for AA to man up and salvage his career with us, or for Connolly to step up. Not sure if or when we’ll see Aleksic or Samed - and I hope it is purely through choice when we do, as the Neil Jude combo just gets better. Still think we need another attacker in Jan, and more ready to go midfield depth. Mayenda is not a natural finisher/striker, much better suited to running at defenders from a wide position. anyhow, on to Stoke. We need the 3 points there
I got a message this morning to say it 2/3 times its normal size and they have used a specific boot type to try and bring the swelling down to get a scan quicker. That worries me. That screams of significant ankle ligament damage and 8 weeks.
Ah, well we shall just have to wait and see, doesn't sound great but at least we can allow him the time to get 100% fit. Silver lining , no ones going to buy an injured player in the January window. Who will take their opportunity to replace him? Just a shame its happened now, in a couple of weeks we could have had Samed available.
Fair point. Gutted for the lad though. I have no idea. Probably AA. Maybe they go 4-4-2. Hard to know as no others have been given a chance to get proper game time to then come in and start. The serb should be the perfect fit given his profile and how he played for other team.
Away to a fifth place team on a 6 win streak and , despite only playing half a game , get a point ( and deprive them of 2), can't really complain, but like everyone still feel disappointed. If the equaliser and miss had come 15 minutes earlier, it wouldn't be feeling so bad. Blackburn players' celebration of equaliser and their fans more interested in singing ''who are ya'' than cheering their team on showed they were well pleased with a draw, whilst our players were gutted with that same draw.
Whoever is handed the shirt should have the opportunity to play a few games and show what they can do. As my edit to my earlier post said, just a shame Samed isn't fit
I know mate. It's always a couple more weeks away with him. Like chasing the never caught dragon. Needs to be ready this time though. Otherwise get rid and bring in a player who can actually make the match day squad. We are too light in CM to be carrying permanently injured loan players.
I suppose that another silver lining is that this injury will focus minds, in respect of Samed, and a decision will be made, one way or the other.
Regis Le Bris on Chris Rigg injury and Sunderland's draw at Blackburn https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/s...chris-rigg-injury-sunderlands-draw-blackburn/ SUNDERLAND boss Regis Le Bris admitted consistency is the key to unlocking his team’s full promotion potential after watching them concede a last gasp equaliser at Blackburn Rovers.... Despite declaring himself satisfied with the result, Le Bris said: “We probably needed to play a more consistent game. It was a little bit unstable at times. “That, maybe, is a question of experience because we have a very young group. It is maybe about learning what the high standards are and having a picture in your mind about what is going to happen. "But we reacted well to other situations. That shows the potential. “It is not about halves, though. It is about 100 minutes of football. You need to manage this and be consistent all the time.” Sunderland, who later lost Rigg to injury, were way below par before the break and deservedly fell behind when Ohashi pounced. But they improved immeasurably after the interval - something Le Bris attributed to mind-set rather than the game plan he had devised. “It was clear, to begin with, that we were only 60 or 70 percent of what we wanted,” he said. “It wasn’t tactics. It was about levels and the levels we had weren’t the levels we needed. “Then, we raised our standards and showed we could react to that.” Revealing Rigg was due to be assessed overnight - “It is too early to say what it is but hopefully it’s nothing serious” - Le Bris saw Isidor hand Sunderland the lead after the midfielder’s leveller. But having failed to translate their dominance into a more healthy lead, the visitors were punished when Leonard struck during the closing stages. However, Eliezer Mayenda should have ensured all three points returned with them to Wearside after finishing himself clean through on goal with only seconds remaining. Rather than finding the back of the net, his tame effort was blocked by Aynsley Pears. “It is not a bad result, against a very strong team with a really good dynamic,” Le Bris said. “We will analyse and assess what happened, as we always do. But in the end, I think that is a good point. “It did not surprise me, the intensity Blackburn showed because it is no coincidence they are high in the table as well.”
Saw the reply he took his first touch with his knee looked forward then after that if you watch a close up replay his head was on the ball the whole time. That’s why the keeper closed him down
Poor play but, to be fair to the lad, he is raw and has probably not been in that situation very often. Especially so late in a game with 3 points on the line. Isidor didn't do well in a similar situation and is much more experienced.
19 years old playing without a goal since the second game of the season. I saw a nervous lad when I watched it back. He was almost “too” desperate to score. Shocking the way some if our fans are going on on social media about him mind!
I’m pleased I haven’t got any social media I solely rely on this place, as you say he looked nervous and almost had to much time on his hands a sit down and run through the video with the coaches will do him the world of good onwards and upwards for the lad
imagine that though, being through on goal with a chance to score the winner while heading directly towards over 7000 screaming fans...not surprised he did not score but he did damn well to make the run and keep ahead of the defender, next time it will hit the net.
