Even after the 9-30am watershed.....going up town (London) on the first nonstop- train can be a standing only experience.....no one stands to let older ones sit down.....there to plugged into their I-Pads etc to notice you.
Two things to that notdistant. First one being I don't drive but do travel in cars from time to time. I am a nervous passenger these days. The second one is about our recent visit to the Capital and travel on the Underground. I hadn't been to London for quite a few years and mostly when I travelled across it the trains were reasonable and it wasn't rush hours. This time it was several times when going back to the Hotel in the evening. On one day my Missus, who will literally talk to anyone, started a conversation in a carriage where believe it or not quite a few joined in. They were even having a laugh and joke. A bloke got on with a size 19 box which was obviously heavy but he couldn't put down. Got up and offerred him the seat as he was struggling. After much persuation he sat down and was clearly in shock. He said he had worked in London for the last 12 years and in all of that time nobody had ever got up to give anyone a seat on any train he had been on. My missus then shamed another young bloke into getting up and giving his seat to a mum and small child who was struggling to hold on. She is relentless when she gets going. After much discussion in the carriage a few decided they should be a bit more giving. I'll bet if she travelled on the Underground more regularly she would have them all toeing the line. I bet none of them gave up a seat the next day though.
