Geez I've been a little afraid to enter into this debate, but I have to say that I was more than a little stunned by the manner in which she won. As has been pointed out by Dan, Ron, and quite of few others, she had a lot to contend with, but it has to be admitted that on face value, she's not lived up to the hype. I run the risk of being looked upon as biased, if I offer up the opinion that her performance wasn't up to her usual standard. I can't know whether she was injured or just flat, I can only go on what I've seen her do in the past. Her trainer was adamant that he had her at her peak going into the race, but an animal is an animal, one can never be sure that expectations can be fulfilled. He expected better that what he got, a lot of people did. On a daily basis, trainers sent horses to the course believing they will get a good run from a horse, only to return home empty handed, it happens to the very best of trainers. That she won was a blessing, at least for me. Oh, and on a personal note, I love Frankel. :) And with that, bed.

P.S. Thanks for the kind words above Dan.

Don't get me wrong folks. Of course the forum is about different opinions and I have stated mine. Maybe I should clarify my comment about pointless and disrespect.

I think it is pointless to keep comparing her to Frankel.
One is a sprinter and one is a miler stepping up to 10f. One has stepped out of her comfort zone and travelled half way round the World; the other hasn't and never will.

I just personally feel it is disrespectful to the mare to belittle her ability on the basis of this one run away from home. We all know she ran below expectations and way below the form she is capable of. It happens sometimes, even on home soil. She did her best in the circumstances and won despite the jockey's self confessed "brain fade"

Frankel is our champion, probably the best there has ever been over 8f. Please, could you just place yourself in the situation where Frankel goes to America. We would not entertain the possibility of defeat. The best horse in the world cannot be beaten. But, consider then your reaction if he got turned over or just scraped home and you had to listen to the sort of comments being aimed at Black Caviar, maybe you will be more forgiving towards her.

Obviously he won't go so you will be spared that horrible experience.

Having seen some of the uncomplimentary comments on Black Caviar, I am glad that Frankel is not going to America because I would hate to hear people running him down if he didn't win well. And even worse, if he was reported to have some lameness after the race, I would hate to see Frankel knockers finding the "excuse" laughable.

I agree with the Frankel comparrison Ron which is why on this thread i have not mentioned him in relation to Black Caviar and as i stated before the greatest sadness is that the International trainers may be less likely to allow their best horses to take their chance now.

On a lighter note i never thought i would see the day when you yourself told a poster to f*** off on your own forum. You would normally have to have a quite personal message exchange with yourself and apologise to yourself. In this case as it was only Boris i think it actually fine as Boris's comedy routine can really only be said to be a success if someone has told him to F*** Off.

    one other thing

Harbinger...... one fluke race or best King george winner ever?????? <whistle>

Frankel is the best horse in the World and Black Caviar is the 2nd best horse in the World. Therefore, comparisons are inevitable and, in my opinion, justified. The fact that they race over different distances doesn't matter because their relative abilities can still be assessed. It is not necessarily a case of who would beat who, but who is better in their category.

On that note it seems like a good time to close the thread before we all start repeating ourselves. Thank you all for keeping it civil. Oh and Joe, apologies for the "**** off"; following consultation with the moderator it was decided it was out of character and uncalled for.
