At 10.55 UK time this morning, Friday 22nd March 2013, Black Caviar will explode out of the starting gate at Melbourne's famous Moonee Valley racetrack to tackle the 6 furlong course for the 7th time in her career. A career which to date has her 23 from 23 against all comers in the southern hemisphere and, of course, that famous, dramatic victory at Royal Ascot last year. Now aged 7, it would appear that Black Caviar is actually getting quicker. Here a look at the winning times of her 6 previous visits to Moonee Valley's 6 furlong course:

Aug 09 (Good) 1m 11.15s
Jan 10 (Good) 1m 10.18s
Oct 10 (Good/Soft) 1m 11.01s
Mar 11 (Good) 1m 10.00s
Oct 11 (Good/Soft) 1m 10.13s
Jan 12 (Good) 1m 09.44s

On her last visit to the track in January 2012 she broke the 1m 10s marker for the first time and she will surely be well under it today, perhaps even challenging the 6f course record of 1m 09.29s, set by the great mare Miss Andretti in 2006. For, on her seasonal reappearance this year (16th Feb, Lightning Stakes), she went over the 5 furlongs at Flemington in 55.42s on good ground - smashing the 25 year-old track record.

It looks like ATR are covering the race so you lucky buggers in the UK will be able to watch what could turn out to be a historical race <ok>

I really hope they bring her back again this year :)

Its the way that she stretches out to me what is so impressive. She obviously has some kick to her but it all seems so effortless... Poetry in motion... If poetry is your thing...<laugh>

As solid a 1/25 shot you are likely to see...<yikes>.<laugh>

Apparently she covers about 8m with one stride (that's about 26 feet in old money, 2 full-sized snooker tables laid end-to-end with a 2 feet gap down the middle to walk through <yikes>

Got to love the Aussies. They held the race back so it could be held at half time i the big Aussie Rules match. Can you imagine any of our august sporting bodies making sure the kick off times were organised so a big horse race could be watched at half time? Nah - didn't think so.
