I was sat in the home end just under our fans. Have to say a massive Thank You to you all for singing non stop and made the Geordies seem quiet. Not the best of days. Honestly thought we would have got something from the game. The weather reflected the game. We seem to lack composure and constantly played long balls over the top.

End of the day we lost 1-0 away at Newcastle. Had the result gone the other way it would have been a travesty given their dominance.

Yep. Non-event from a performance point of view, but one that creates a useful catalyst for the gaffer - and, my, how swiftly he reacted in heaving us down a gear ready to negotiate the terrain ahead!

Whilst we fans have to accept this as a blip, it was great to see the weight of 'Arry's wake-up call. In summary: too many over-paid has beens or never weres. That gives him licence to be ruthless in team selection from here on in. Good psychology. Hope it works for us.

See he's also looking beyond the competitive prem to bolster the squad. Another sensible approach.

So, for me, yesterday WAS eventful - just off the pitch rather than on it. Should make all the difference going forward imo.

Would've been much worse if he'd come out with the kind of limp-wristed apologist stuff other managers do under similar circs. the boys did okay but it was SJP in heavy rain etc. etc.
