Apparently he’s justified his subs down to cramps and fatigue , I do trust in bowyer but they didn’t seem to be the best subs last night - never easy being a charlton supporter

The 5 subs clearly gives a big advantage to richer Clubs with squads that have quality in depth.

Smaller Clubs with weaker squads are much more likely to have subs who are just there to do a job if another player falls injured.
Bigger Clubs have talented 'weaponised' substitutes, capable of coming on and really changing a game.

When was the last time a sub came off Charlton's bench and really took a game by the scruff of the neck?
Darren Pratley might have done something similar a few times perhaps.

3 substitutions is more than enough.
But now I read that 5 subs are going to be allowed all next season. That is very unfair in my view.

Still, I assume they are going to drop the much abused 'drinks breaks'.
No need at all for such nonsense in autumn/winter/spring time.

We know the real reason drinks breaks have been brought in.

It's the first step towards breaking the game up into four quarters, as demanded by TV broadcasters (mostly in the US).

A few years from now when fans have been softened up enough, there will be three breaks; probably two 5 minute ones at the quarter points, and a reduced half time break of maybe 10 minutes.
Perfect for nice long advert slots.

I make you right. They'll then be going off for lunch like the cricket.

Admittedly hot weather was probably in the minds of those who decided a formal 60 second drinks break would be a good idea after the re-start.

But with modern weather predicting tech we know days in advance now if the weather is going to be hot. And it's barely got above 20 degrees for weeks.
Referees should have discretion to not have drinks breaks if they are obviously not needed.
Drinks breaks on a chilly evening oop north are ridiculous. Commentators and fans are laughing at them.

Also of course, the 60 second drinks break has become a 2 minute+ tactical briefing break.
Stoppage time of 6 or 7 minutes is now not unusual.
