He was, but IF we had gone down, then he may have decided to stay. It is hypothetical as player has left and hopefully we wont go down
What choice have we all got anyway Hopefully he will turn us into a good side and rekindle our reputation and his at the same time
It was John Maynard Keynes that was attributed with saying,”if the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?” Yes, if McClaren starts to win games and we see the Rs climb the table, then of course only a fool would call for his head. But what sticks in the craw (whatever a craw is) is what appears to be a complete about-turn (yet again) of what we’ve been told is the plan. Any reversal of fortunes would be presumably attributable to the signings of messrs Rangel, Cameron, Wells and Hemed, all seasoned veterans.
I don't have a problem with this. Having so many youngsters in a team that loses week after week can destroy them. You criticise the fact that the club has seemed to change tack in getting in some experience, but would you not have been critical had they let things drift on, whilst losing match after match? Seems they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.
I flatter myself that I’m smart enough not to have made that statement in the first place, Col. So, we end up having a decent season and secure a Championship berth for another year, at which point we wave bye-bye to the four loanees and, what, look for another four next time around? It is wholly reasonable to be critical of the fools that run this club, Col. Wholly reasonable. McClaren has done what any self-serving manager desperate for a job would’ve done, which is to nod in the right places during the interview, sign on the dotted line, and then say, ”Actually...”
Agreed. I don't agree that the present action of adding some experienced (good imo) players is a bad thing.
Also, with the loanees - I believe that 2 are out of contract at the end of their time with us (exclude Rangel) so there could potentially be an opportunity for them to showcase their talent and if we do have a good season, maybe for them to extend their stay. I know it goes against what McLaren was brought in for but a season of stability (whether enforced or not) would make a change. And surely the youngsters can learn from the more experienced pros...
I did. Read it again, Col, and you’ll see it’s the useless managerial about turn that stick in the craw. Why make the original statement and then change your philosophy straight away? We know why, but why not just keep your gob shut in the first place. They just make themselves look like prats.
LFW's match report ... To a game we'll never remember - Report Sunday, 2nd Sep 2018 13:42 by Clive Whittingham Queens Park Rangers' cautious recovery from the West Brom and Bristol City debacles continued with a dull 0-0 draw at Birmingham on Saturday that could, and should, have been a rare away win. One would presume more boring things than Birmingham City 0 Queens Park Rangers 0 have happened somewhere in the world at some point through history. But I wasn’t there for them. For your authentic, thick Championship sludge simply take two poor teams and boil them through a traumatic August until all the confidence has evaporated and they’re labouring under the misapprehension that a draw from a game against each other is a good result. Add one referee who grew up loathing football and is now dedicating his life to ruining it for the rest of us and serve over 90 stupefying minutes until your guests have started to weep. QPR press conference: Steve McClaren on clean sheets, Leistner's importance and signing Cameron - football.london https://www.football.london/queens-park-rangers-fc/qpr-press-conference-steve-mcclaren-15100819 QPR press conference: Steve McClaren on clean sheets, Leistner's importance and signing Cameron Every word from the Rs boss after the 0-0 draw with Birmingham City at St Andrews By Tom Victor On back-to-back clean sheets After the West Brom game it's something we had to address, because yes we've got talent, but we need to keep clean sheets. I think also the last two weeks the squad's looking totally different compared to what it did three weeks ago. We've signed five quality players, I believe. Leistner and Angel Rangel coming in and getting fitter, but two strikers, once we get them fit, on another day would score, and Geoff Cameron who comes in and has experience with the Premier League. The squad looks better, stronger and we've worked a lot on organisation and discipline because I think we're a good team on the ball but we needed to develop that steeliness without, especially away from home with four wins in 36 games in the last two years away from home. That's apparently what it is. We need to create something where we come away and, if we keep clean sheets, we've got players who can score. So credit to the players, a lot of work on the training field in the last two weeks, and I'm disappointed we didn't get three points, that they didn't get the reward they deserved. That, apart from the result and not scoring, was as good an away performance as I've seen for a long time from this team. I don't think [Birmingham] had a clear cut chance, I don't think Joe Lumley had a shot to save, so on reflection I'm disappointed not to win that game. On defending as a team We knew they'd be direct, we knew there would be a lot of balls into our box and we'd have to stand up and deal with that. I thought Leistner and Lynch were very good, but we've talked about it and it's a team performance. If one made a mistake then everybody else is covering for them, everyone's working hard and for the likes of Eze who's got great talent on the ball, the great work he did, not just on the ball but off the ball as well today in terms of helping the team defend. please log in to view this image Jacques Maghoma of Birmingham battles with Queens Park Rangers winger Eberechi Eze.(Image: Nathan Stirk/Getty Images) On the balance of play I think Birmingham rode their luck, I think we let them off the hook today and we can't do that again. But we're in a better place now than we were two weeks ago, and when I look at the squad, that squad can now go forward. Two weeks' hard work and we start again. On the threat posed by Birmingham I think they've done very well. They should have beaten Swansea here. They should have beaten Nottingham Forest. Their front two and their two wide players are a big threat. I think that was the key to getting a result - to dominate the centre forwards and not let the wide players come inside, and we did that. Then we built from it as the game went on. I saw them against Forest and against Swansea and said this was going to be a really tough game, but I've got to say we controlled in. Bright Osayi-Samuel is a new shining light for QPR and ready to challenge Eberechi Eze out wide On Matt Smith's late chance I think we deserved that [to go in] but we had opportunities before. On Josh Scowen It was a knee injury, and it was probably too early to put Geoff Cameron in there so Jordan Cousins came in and did a great job, as he did in the week in the cup. We've got two wins and a draw in a week, slowly but surely we need to recover from the first four games and a bad start, and now we need to build on this over the next two weeks and start again with Bolton away. On Toni Leistner He's aggressive, he's dominant, and him and Lynch have got to form a good partnership. There's still a lot of work to do but I was so pleased with those two today. Geoff Cameron's first words after joining QPR on a season-long loan deal from Stoke City Credit to the club, we've been patient, we got him in early as a free and we've had to be patient. The club and the board have supported us, got two strikers in and Geoff Cameron, who's a great all-rounder to add to the squad. I can't complain about what they've done to build this squad. We had to wait for the loan market but the squad's looking better than it did. This is a talented young squad we've got but it needed some experience and men around them and I think we've signed that. On the season ahead It's been a good week but now we have to work, I've said to them we have to work on the training field and be hard to beat, but when we've got footballers putting chances away we'll be turning one point into three. That's the minimum the fans want to see, they want to see fight, attitude, organisation and good football and they saw that today. I'm pleased for them, they had a good time in the sun, but not the three points for us.
