Tony Cascarino did an article in the Times today about football hardmen after the Gattuso incident against Spurs on Tuesday......Voted No.1.....you guessed it...Big Billy Whitehurst.

they were talking about it on Talksport this morning and reeled off a list of names he had included like Terry Hurlock, Jimmy Case and Norman Hunter but didnt mention Billy..I was waiting to see if they did

A few years ago i was listening to the wireless coming home from a holiday and i had talk sport on, one of the commentators was Neil Ruddock and he was asked who was the most intimidating player he had ever played against and he said unequivocally that it was Billy it made me feel proud to be a Tigers fan although the buffoon forgot to mention he played for City.

Whitehurst joined the Tigers just after I started watching them, the thing about Billy was he wasn't a thug re: Lorimer and co. He'd simply take no sh1t, anyone prat who started to think they could generally came a cropper. When people on here start calling for a target man, for me Billy was the absolute ideal guy that said he score some beauties from outside the box. Away a Bradford one year I recall hm leathering a screamer in from 30 yards.

He was hard but fair. Top man!

theres a classic story about sheff u players going into a rouhg pub and vinnie jones hiding behind big billy. they dont mention that on film 2011.

I remember a home match against Bristol City. In the first few minutes the centre half cleared the ball and Billy smashed into him about half a second later. The crowd went quiet. The centre half took about 5 minutes to get up and Billy wasn't even spoken to by the ref.
