Blimey, 20 "fortunate goals" a season. Bet he wishes he'd bought a few lottery tickets as well. Seriously though, how long had Paynter and Austin been playing together ? I remember thinkng at the time that Austin was the better player of the two, was he the main reason their partnership was so successful ? We know what's happened to Swindon since they both left.
Paynter also partnered Simon Cox Seriously though, I know plenty of Swindon fans & they laughed there head off when we signed Paynter. Sadly he isnt upto the Championship & I will back any player who pulls on the shirt. Just being realistic unfortunatley he is not good enough. Prove me wrong Billy, for all our sakes.
I also doubted 20 fortunate goals but now I can see why he made those comments. That season does stand out from anything else he has ever done and yes I will support him while he is wearing a Leeds shirt I just hope I don't see him in one too often as it will mean our other strikers are fit and doing well.
Apart from the one season at Swindon when he scored 29 goals, his highest total is 14 goals. That was at League One level. He's an average League One striker and won't ever be anything more. Even though McCormack had a poor season, he actually has some quality. But when you watch Paytner, he has nothing. I'd rather see us start the season with McCormack and Nunez upfront than Paynter playing. I support whoever is playing for Leeds but he is a **** player.
But he's a proven League One striker TC. Once Becchio and Somma are back I expect Paynter will be a Millwall player. You'll be needing him next season.....
I genuinely believe Paynter will do well this season. With Becchio and Somma both injured, he must be thinking that this is his big chance. He's staring at an opportunity to prove himself to us, and to Grayson, that he's got what it takes to not only cope but succeed at this level. So many people said we struggle for goals last season when Beckford left for Everyone, but Becchio and Somma stepped up to the challenge and answered all of the critics who said they couldn't hack it, contributing to one of our best goalscoring records in years. How can you be so sure that Paynter (and McCormack) won't do the same?
Only till tuesday Might pop over to Lille to tell them Gradels no bloody good! We need him to stay! Strangely still feeling positive about this season, must be in holiday mode
I have a hut door that moves quicker than Paynter and looks interested in the game of football, if it wore a Leeds shirt, would I have to support its inclusion in the team?
