I liked that bit of Bobby Charlton walking onto the pitch. Very nice man. Fair player too!!!! Couldn't say anything nice about his brother, who kept a notebook of names of players he was going to chop!

Last seasons champions leagues finalists can definitely afford to pay their non playing staff, they’re just choosing not to because they can. It’s a disgusting move and shows the true side of football clubs.

I won’t be spending another penny on football for a long time if ever. I’ll watch games on illegal streams and won’t attend any games (live 400miles from WHL now) or buy any merchandise (as an adult man I don’t wear football shirts anyway)

    The game is gone

Do not confuse my support for the way Levy operates the large amounts of money to keep Spurs viable with support for a system where he and the few others earn millions off the back of millions of people earning very ordinary amounts of money. I am not surprised by the way Spurs and others have behaved, that's how I expect them to behave. Like Blue & White I do sometimes regret my support for professional football at the elite level that Spurs operate at. I have no illusions about the way the money men have turned it into a massive money machine they are doing the same to cricket. Even now there will be people who are profiteering from the current situation in all sorts of ways from inflating the prices of disinfectant to disposable gloves. It's just how the greedy bastards are. We will be hearing about this for years after the event.
I take heart from the decent human beings I know and have known over the years (we have quite a few on here) and concentrate on those more positive areas.
I have no doubt I will be back watching football when it returns because it's a powerful drug but I won;t be proud of it at all.

Gosh. I remember going to Lords to watch Middlesex when it was a quiet day out and could hear the players talking to each other on the field of play......and giving players a gentle round of applause when they scored or got someone out...…….I believe it is a circus today!

I'd like to think that after this is all over people will remember that in order to survive the pandemic we needed NHS staff, delivery drivers, shop assistants and so on. The number and wealth of bankers is unsurprisingly irrelevant. I am however sceptical because the establishment is rather entrenched, but maybe this will chip away at it. Meanwhile my wife (who has underlying medical conditions) continues to go to work at her hospital, knowing that if she catches the thing it's probably going to be serious. But she has to set an example to her staff, some of whom are for obvious reasons, wondering about their own health. There are a lot of people like her and it makes the decades of destruction of "society" all the more sickening.

I hate the circus.. Lords was my second home in the 60's. I go there now and I hate the people who go 'for fun' and not for cricket.

The county circuit is still the same Smithy , I go with a couple of mates 2 or 3 times a year to Lords, nice to catch up and have a couple of beers. the crowd will only be on the hundreds if they're playing Somerset or the like

I classify all professions in terms of :

    1. complexity
    2. importance

For 1, there are lots of professions that are quite complex
(the inherent/resources/intelligence required to do the job) ,
and others that are very mundane.

For 2, the question you ask (for any profession P) is :

what happens if the set of P "down tools" right now ??

The example I use is myself vs the local bin men.

If I down tools, you won't get the telecoms systems that give you ever
faster comms / lower energy consumption / geographical reach etc.

However the world can get by as is very comfortably on what exists now.

If my bin men down tools, then quite soon we have food stuffs rotting
away, with pestilence and possibly disease not too far away (those
oid enough to have lived thru the "winter of discontent" will recall this) .

The Corona-chan crisis hopefully makes people now realise in the grand
scheme of things, what the most important professions are (and always have
    been) .

    Coronavirus is a great leveller.
This is very sad, but you can't help feeling the world is going through a period of readjustment where people need to consider what is really important beyond wealth, fame, celebrity & public exposure.
