    Wonderful.
My son was due to do his GCSEs this summer.
He's hardworking, conscientious and generally an all round model student.
I'm hoping the silver lining will be that his effort is rewarded without him having to endure the stress of exams.

Thanks. He, his siblings and parents are self-isolating because his immune system is fried. He's a real star and incredibly modest and unassuming.

My youngest has also 'got out' of doing her GCSE's this summer. She suffers from dyslexia and pretty severe depression and this winter was a real bad one. Consequently, she did pretty badly in her mocks - badly enough to endanger her place at college. However, her psychiatrist has labelled her attendance at school at that time "nothing short of a miracle" and the school have committed to fighting her corner to get her the results that she deserves and needs to go to college.

Like your young man, being conscientious and a model student should count for a good deal, even if life has served up some problems to be overcome. I hope your lad's future isn't badly affected by the lack of exams.

You need a change of luck Brian. Perhaps aliens will land in your back garden and carry you off to Paradise...……!

And they appear to have lost sight of the protection that our social contract offers them.
Bread and circuses has worked for centuries. If you stop even providing that, then you really are taking a big risk.

Cheers, Smithy...but every day I spend with Mrs B and my girls IS paradise.

A while ago, I learned that today may be as good as it gets...so try and make the best of it and keep smiling.

In some ways the present issues are a blessing. It helps you to shut out the white noise and appreciate the time spent with family doing things you don't ordinarily get round to doing.
It was Col. Mustard with the dagger in the dining room.

Having watched us commit PR suicide in 'furloughing' non-playing staff, Liverpool, who make even more money than we do, have decided to make the same colossal, greedy mistake...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52165826

    They're getting the same treatment...

    Boooooooooooo!

At least they are paying the additional 20% so their lowest paid staff aren't losing out...

Good to see their fans criticise the club for this

    Oh wait...

I don't know if that's better or worse?

"Sure, we've got the money to pay the little people the money.....but if the taxpayer can pay most of it.....**** it, why not?"

So we're paying the majority. :steam:

It's definitely worse for those losing money!

We'd be ****ed if we lost 20% of our household income...I can not imagine how much more stressed I'd be...but watching my uni kid and her partner (who she now lives with) I got a pretty good idea....at least we can help her a bit ... mainly cos our employers are not scum.

Now that is some news worth sharing, that is fantastic Brian in any circumstance but given his particular circumstances it is quite outstanding.

I definitely agree on that...but I don't accept that Liverpool and Spurs can't afford to pay their staff, when almost certainly, both will be out spending a fortune this summer on transfers.

If neither buy a player this summer, then I'll be apologising but I doubt it.

Football clubs don't obey the normal rules of economics.
    Neither do pop groups.
When the Stones genuinely need to furlough Keith Richards, you know there's a problem,
In the meantime, let's assume the government shouldn't be picking up the bill for the very rich.
Oh - there happens to be a limit on what the government will pay anyway.
