Studs? more like tread nowadays, my carpet slippers when I was a kid were more dangerous. Studs are made of layers of leather and nailed on, you should know that Smithy.
Haven't worn a pair of football boots since my last game with the US Navy sailors in 1980......and strained my groin by the way!
I was 51 when I played my last game, wore steel toe capped safety boots because I couldn't buy any football boots in Eritrea. They slow you down, but I was pretty slow anyhow, make a mess of opponents shins though, shin pads or not.
History tells us footballers in the very early days used to kick each others shins. Must have been fun!
“- Brother Jimmy, said Joey the Lips. - I'm worried. - About Dean. - Wha' abou' Dean? - He told me he's been listening to jazz. - An' what's wrong with jazz? Jimmy asked. - Intellectual music, said Joey the Lips. - It's anti-people music. It's abstract. - It's cold an' emotionless, amn't I righ'? said Mickah. - You are. - It's got no soul. It is sound for the sake of sound. It has no meaning. - It's musical ****ing, Brother. The Commitments - Roddy Doyle I recommend it...and the film's pretty good too.
OK Brian, I'll bite. Huge misunderstanding of what jazz is here. Of course there are people who play jazz that is insular and up it's itself. Rather like some so called progressive rock bands. Then there is the mainstream which is all about communicating with people from Louis Armstrong who pretty much invented modern singing and to whom all popular singers following owe a debt. To Duke Ellington who communicated with people all over the world for 60 years to the huge number of jazz musicians throughout the decades. It's got no soul says The whole of popular music has got it's soul from jazz it's America's greatest contribution to the twentieth century and it's all about African Americans.
As we've discussed before, "Each to their own..." You like Jazz, I like cider. I like Punk, you like malt whisky. Mostly, I said it because it's a great line, from a funny character. I could do most of the book word for word. Jazz isn't for me but if everyone liked my music, I'd struggle to get tickets.
