Michel Platini has been arrested over the award of the 2022 WC to Qatar. Finally, some sort of action on the most obvious case of corruption ever...anywhere. I guess it'll still go ahead there though?
It better had !!! I spent millions buying shares in sun tan lotion companies, on the explicit promise from Platini that Qatar 2022 is going to happen.
It should be relocated to England and played in the summer, so that I can retire after making my fortune selling umbrellas and those poncho things to fans at Wembley and (Very) Old Trafford... . please log in to view this image
You're a Spurs supporter. You know it will go Spursy and there will be a heatwave with daily temperatures of low 20s to 30C just as it would be for Qatar 2022.
Come and buy my parasols.... Also, sand available to oil potentates, snow to innuits, handkerchiefs to Gooners, etc, etc.
In the last couple of years Toronto have won the NBA and MLS So much for making America great again...
People are being shot all over the place here.Bomb happy bastards I call them.I'm just wondering when the NRA insist everyone wear a gunbelt and a six shooter "for protection!"
Scores that free-kick against Fulham, hits the post against Everton and Kane gets the rebound, then doesn't take any more.
Unbelievable. Well very believable actually. We finally have a tool (VAR) that could resolve controversy and even up decisions, and the implementation has been completely ****ed up. What we have instead is a game that will resolve around trying to "win" penalties by aiming at defenders arms, because it is easier than trying to score a goal. Moreover, VAR is now going to ensure that keepers have even less chance of saving the penalty by making sure they stay on the line. Sure it's in the rules, but when has this ever been enforced? What's even worse is that I bet when introduced into the PL, some keepers will be penalised whilst certain others will find that they don't get a VAR check. So VAR, could have been the answer, looks like it's going to add to the problem.
VAR is being applied to incidents in a way that many didn't envisage. This is not what we were originally sold and it needs to be put back on track. The changes to the hand ball rule are penalising teams, irrespective of the fact that there's been no foul play, Now we're seeing penalties being retaken following the most minute of infraction in requiring goalkeepers to have one foot on the goal line. VAR was supposed to overrule clear and obvious errors, in order to improve the game. It's being applied too often and there are unacceptable delays in measuring the merest fraction in the slowest of slow motion. It isn't improving the game, it's making it worse and leading to more referees becoming the centre of attention when, ideally, they should be the opposite.
I think that it is reasonable for VaR to be used for factual decisions around goals. Goalkeepers will just have to obey the rules at penalties.
I played in goal a little bit. It'll be next to impossible to ensure that you've got one foot on the line. Remember it's not allowed to be over or behind it. It has to be on it and the penalty taker is allowed to break his run any amount of times and the 'keeper is expected to primarily be concentrating on keeping a foot on the line. If he makes the merest error in his calculation, the taker gets a second go, probably even if he/she belts it 10 yards over the bar and the new law is irrelevant to the outcome of missing. I'm not questioning obeying the rules, I'm questioning why the rule has been changed? To my mind, it's worse than it was before and VAR now has a further opportunity to pore over a fractional transgression of an area of the game that wasn't a real problem - it bloody will be now. As the idea of VAR has been changed from applying only to "clear and obvious errors" it is making sensible laws of the game seem ridiculous. It is going to be so difficult to comply with, that it's going to cause unnecessary friction and that's not helpful to anyone involved. Booking the 'keeper is just the stupid cherry on the top of the whole ridiculous cake. Daft beyond words.
On this occasion, the PL has gone for some common sense and this issue won't be referrable to VAR (although reviewing it during the season is a worry as officials love this new toy and being the centre of attention)... https://www.enfieldindependent.co.u...-goalkeepers-movements-in-the-premier-league/ The naked eye can tell if a goalkeeper has gained an unfair advantage, or an official shouldn't be on the pitch. It would be overkill and just piss people off. I'm pleased to see this decision in our game, now we've just got to get the nonsense out of the biggest sporting events in world football -the World Cup.
