I dread the day that Peter Herbert crawls out from under his rock and suggests the reason that the likes of Dozzell, Armstrong, Gardner, Jenas, Atouba, Gomes, Zokora, Gilberto, Naughton, Townsend and Sissoko were our lightning rods for reasons other than being liable for at least one facepalm per match, while completely ignoring how Iversen, Sherwood, Leonhardsen, Soldado, Trippier, and Janssen all filled the same role.

I seem to recall that this John Pratt goal was in the The Big Match top 6 'Golden Goal' competition for that season (72-73?) - Commentary from the fabulous Hugh Johns

6th December 1972. League Cup replay at WHL vs Liverpool. Stands packed to capacity. And Spurs go 3-0 up in first 15 minutes! Including a cracker from JP (as our little posse used to call him). We weren’t big fans of his, to be honest, because he wasn’t a dazzling trickster on the ball, but there was something about his 100% honest endeavour that nevertheless endeared him to us, and in that moment he could have been crowned King of the Shelf. When that third one went in, the crowd erupted in ecstasy. As they did so, in throwing up my arms I caught my glasses and knocked them flying upwards into the night sky to land I knew not where (I couldn't see!). One of my pals called out to people near us to move back because I’d lost my glasses..... and unbelievably it happened! People moved away and left a sizeable empty space round me........ and there they were, on the ground, a couple of ledges below me! I calmly (!) picked them up, put them back on, joined in the singing, and watched the rest of the game in double delight. We won 3-1. I’ve never forgotten that night - not least because it showed me the decency of Spurs fans, who interrupted their celebration to help a (rather distressed) fellow-supporter! (But also because I saw John Pratt score!!!!!)

Is he the first Kenyan to win it? You'd have thought so, really.

He's the first Spurs player to win it, as the award's only existed since the start of the 2016-17 season.

...so expect bitter Goons to be updating that TrollFootball meme any minute now.

    From the BBC:

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been fined £20,000 for wearing a yellow ribbon on the touchline during the FA Cup defeat at Wigan.

On Monday, the Spaniard accepted the Football Association charge for "wearing a political message", a breach of kit and advertising regulations. He has also been warned about his future conduct.

<doh> What a ****ing waste of time. I wonder how much a swastika would have cost him?

It's a bit silly, but I can understand why the rule's in place.
The Premier League and FA are only really concerned about advertisers and the market, of course.
I'm not a fan of slippery slope arguments in general, but I think it's an odd one for those in charge to have to deal with.
Where do you draw the line on this sort of thing?

I'm not opposed to the rule but it seems that the FA/PL deem it a problem and UEFA don't. He's worn it for CL games, no problem. We wear poppies and FIFA have a problem with them. So. it's all subjective, which makes it a complete nonsense in my eyes. One man's Citeh manager is another man's freedom fighter.

UEFA are far worse though, in my opinion. They pick and choose and almost inevitably get it wrong.
Legia Warsaw were fined for an illicit banner for what they saw as honouring the victims of Nazi war crimes.

Lazio got fined less for blatant racism towards our players during a match, as have a wide variety of other clubs and countries.
They seem to be making it up as they go along and there's no consistency.

It's one thing having a joke on here but I ****ing hate the slagging off of a spurs player at a game.

The only Spurs player I can't stand is Rose. I will never sing his chant or cheer his name before the game when the teams are announced but I would also never boo him or slag him off at a match.

Booing, jeering or giving stick to our own is moronic imho.

  15. Brilliant article with Eric Dier in the Times today.

Well timed, as our Eric has been in the spotlight on here last couple of days.

From this article, I reckon the young man's just fine and has the character and attributes to be that leader we are looking for.

Some great insights into the club too and reinforces my belief that the core of this team are staying put - because they wouldn't want to be anywhere else :emoticon-0148-yes:

(And it just proves that there is still some decent journaliam out there)
