RIP John Merrick, RIP Kane, RIP Professor Broom, RIP Jellon Lamb, RIP Control, RIP Winston Smith, RIP Hazel Most of all, RIP John Hurt
I completely missed this. What a sad loss. His portrayal of Quentin Crisp in The Naked Civil Servant was extraordinary as was his acting in Midnight Express. I can't remember a duff performance and he was very funny. Thanks for the memories.
The chest-burster finally got him. Still, his career was great, and in the period of I Clavdivs / Naked Civil servant / Midnight Express, his acting was imperious.
He had great roles in some other good films too - 10 Rillington Place, Scandal and 1984 spring to mind
RIP John Wetton http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-38812944 Not as widely known as a Bowie or Cohen, but a very significant and respected rock musician! Very sad news.
Fat Frank retires, which once again begs the question about whether there has ever been a golden generation that have achieved less in international football.
On this day in 1960 FA cup 4th round Spurs beat Crewe Alexandre 13-2 with goals from Allen 5, Smith 4,Jones 3 Harmer 1 HT 10-1 Question is Why did we take our foot off the gas at HT ? Typical Spurs .....
Somehow Crewe had held Spurs to a 2-2 draw away. We really didn't expect 13-2! Completely different game v Gornik after the 4-2 loss in Poland.Spurs went at'em for 90 minutes and didn't let up.Result 8-1. ....and don't forget the help from the Spurs Angels.Remember them? The local vicar didn't like them,complained....and that was the end of the Spurs Angels. Oh ye of little faith vicar!
I have a dim memory of them I born in 57 and my 1st game was 1961 V PNE ,We won 5-0 and I was hooked from then on standing on a fold out shoot that the old man would take to games
Signs of defence weakness too. If you concede 2 goals at home, you're going to come unstuck more often than not.
