A remarkably typical move by The FA, where the vast minority of teams taking part in the competition would get any benefit from it.

Imagine if, for the sake of argument, Charlton had a run to the quarter finals in next season's FA Cup, but required a replay and extra time to win every single one of their ties. They wouldn't get much of a benefit as their players would've been run into the ground by that point, and they'd likely be coming up against a Premier League team with a bigger squad who had already skipped two rounds of the competition.

Things that make you feel old

Danny Rose signed for us 9 years ago this week. Still, a good excuse to replay his goal on debut

And the reaction we all had at the time

That cat plays a ridiculously huge part in my daughter being a mad Spur. She was 6 and fell in love with it and Danny Rose's goal. Happy memories.

Well done Danny! A real example of guts-ing it out. There were times when it looked unlikely that he'd ever make it at Spurs and some were less than complimentary about his defending but he was awesome last season. Very pleased for you, son!

The last couple of seasons have, with the exception of Harry Kane, been pretty harsh on the prospects we had high hopes for at the end of the Redknapp Era: Townsend discovered his ceiling was much lower than we expected, Carroll didn't become the English Pirlo we hoped he would, Livermore was dumped and his life started to unravel, Caulker nosedived worryingly fast, Coulibaly didn't become the New Drogba by any stretch of the imagination, Ceballos damn near vanished into thin air - and since then the likes of Bentaleb, Onomah, Winks, CCV and Edwards have all looked like potentially better players than all of them.

My view from the ground was directly behind that shot. Our little section knew it was in just a split second before anyone else. Probably the greatest moment i've had at the Lane.

I'm still pretty happy with the progress that most of them have made, to be honest.
Mason looked like he was heading for the scrapheap and really pushed on, for example.
Is he good enough for where we want to be? Probably not, unfortunately.

If we're producing a whole group of Premier League quality players on a regular basis, then that's great.
It would put us miles ahead of pretty much anyone else.
They're not all going to be Kanes, but it's still a big improvement on what we've had come through for years.

Indeed. Townsend paid for an Eriksen for example. Even if they don't make it at Spurs they are still aiding the cause.

A few years back all our youth were being sold to the championship and lower. Now they typically go to other Prem teams

Expect another round of being beaten over the head for letting Reece Oxford go when he was twelve if he moves to one of the Manc clubs for ££££££££££££££££

So is Kyle Walker. It's a good thing to have some Yorkshire grit about the side, particularly in defence. Michael Dawson is a Yorkie as was Cyril Knowles and Bill Nick. Tough buggers.

Is Winks the guy we had in our academy that was really small, - 5'2/5'3 small? If so, he's still no Peter Crouch, but he has shot up.

There does seem to be a bit of a slowing down on the production line.
I hope for 1-2 Academy prospects per season to at least reach the level required for a senior squad place.

All the best to Andy Reid, who has retired at 34 due to a long standing groin injury. Never really worked out for us, but had a sweet left foot. And also was instrumental in bring Dawson to our club. Deserves our thanks for that if nothing else.

I wonder what the conversation between Keith Burkinshaw and his new Argentinian signings Ossie and Ricky was like?

"By 'eck lads, if tha's goin' to play for Tottenham, tha needs to get tha bloody hair cut."

    "Que?"

If he tolerated Hoddle's hair length, and Chris Jones. Not to mention Neil McNabb, then I think Ossie and Ricky were ok.
