Another sad death. There seems to be a spate of these type of events. Is there a reason for it? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32872696
Does seem a bit odd, doesn't it? Maybe there's some substance abuse going on in less regulated and tested countries? Ortega's death was caused by a ridiculous bit of stadium planning, but so many young athletes being killed seems off, somehow.
The squad for our pre-season trip to Australia's been announced Goalkeepers: Hugo Lloris, Luke McGee, Michel Vorm Defenders: Eric Dier, Federico Fazio, Danny Rose, Jan Vertonghen, Kyle Walker-Peters, DeAndre Yedlin Midfielders: Nabil Bentaleb, Tom Carroll, Nacer Chadli, Mousa Dembele , Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela, Ryan Mason, Josh Onomah, Benji Stambouli, Andros Townsend, Grant Ward, Harry Winks Strikers: Harry Kane, Roberto Soldado However, before the tabloid hacks start writing predictable stories based on who isn't in the squad, the OS also added this statement to the announcement: "Younes Kaboul, Vlad Chiriches and Paulinho have been given permission to remain at the Training Centre, while Emmanuel Adebayor and Etienne Capoue have been granted leave to return home for family reasons"...even though three of the players that were left out are supposedly players that Poch wants to move on this summer.
No Pritchard? That's disappointing. I am a little surprised Kane is expected to go. He'll be on his hands and knees by the end of the U21 tournament
I think Kane 'has' to go because the club have always said he will go, and they don't want to be seen as backing down. I'd be surprised if he plays a big part in the games though, and I doubt he'll be going full throttle in them when he gets on the pitch. It'll be good to hopefully see some of Yedlin, Ward, Winks, Onomah and Carroll, the latter presumably going so he can train himself into being as fit as possible for the U21 Euros.
Shame they can't all just sit on the beach and look at pretty ladies and forget about football. But ,no.Money again,I guess.Too much football as far as I'm concerned!
What a fantastic game of cricket played at Lords. Apparently the highest number of runs where all 40 wickets fell. Such changes in ascendancy, Test cricket at its best. Well played England.
It was a great game. It could only have been bettered by McCullum blasting some quick runs, but NZ still falling a few runs short.
My first guess was we were giving Pritchard a rest before he joins up with the England U21s - but the presence of Carroll and especially Dier in the squad punch holes in that theory.
"My first guess was we were giving Pritchard a rest before he joins up with the England U21s - but the presence of Carroll and especially Dier in the squad punch holes in that theory." Carroll and Dier have played a lot less games than Pritchard this season. Is Carroll only just recovering from an injury too ??
So the club's already got the end of season montage up: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/spurs-tv/features/end-of-season-montage/ ...which seems to freeze at the clip of Soldado scoring, almost as if the sight of him putting it in the net breaks the internet.
The ultimate team is on Facebook, it is Lloris King,Mabutt, , Roberts,Perryman, Gina Gascoigne Hoddle Bale Greaves,Klinsmann
The team picked is a very good one, but looks a bit strange in defence. King at full back? Presumably Gazza is the holding midfielder. As good as it would be going forward, there'd be no cover for the defence. It reads like a set of favourite players, rather than a team.
Perhaps it is 3 5 2 with Perryman and Bale as wing backs? Need to find a space for Luca Modric I think as well as some of the double team. Ginola shouldn't be close....
The lack of Mackay is the one that gets me - also, somehow it looks weird that Greavsie got in, rather than it looking weird that Blanchflower, Jennings and Mackay didn't.
I would agree Mackay would be first pick as would Greaves.Jim would make any team happy, but not in Italy!!!!!!!! ..and Roberts.A real team man.Could do everything for 90 minutes.......but would be sent off every match if he was playing today!
Lamela made Argentina's Copa America squad - although Paulinho failed to make the cut for Brazil, but former Spurs youngster Simon Dawkins made Jamaica's squad. The best news for both of them is that, while Uruguay are in their group, Suarez is still banned from international football - so they won't be getting bitten or racially abused.
