Our ex-player Edgar Davids has left Barnet by "mutual consent". Davids and Barnet was a strange arrangement. He was apparently working for free and often missed games up north because he didn't feel he needed to be there. He had a very poor disciplinary record as the player coach and frequently threatened to quit playing as he felt referees were out to get him and make a name for themselves.
There was a good story about David's helping out the fans who where stranded http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...rnets-fans-are-stranded-following-defeat.html What next for David's? Premier league manager!
This all sounds very sensible. They'll never go for it http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25811977 Orange cards proposed by Fifa candidate Jerome Champagne Fifa presidential candidate Jerome Champagne has suggested introducing orange cards that would allow referees to send players to a sin-bin. The Frenchman, 55, launched his bid to succeed Sepp Blatter as the world governing body's president on Monday. He also wants to punish teams when players question officials and hopes football will consider using more technology for key decisions. Fifa's presidential election will be held in Zurich in June 2015. His other proposals include: â¢Quotas for foreign players â¢Implementing rugby's rule where only the captain can talk to the referee with a free-kick advanced 10 yards for any dissent â¢Abolishing the 'triple punishment' rule where a player who prevents a goalscoring opportunity in the penalty areas concedes a spot-kick, is sent off and also suspended â¢All Fifa presidential candidates taking part in live debates on television and in front of the six continental confederations â¢Making public the salary of the Fifa president and leading officials Champagne, who has been backed by Pele, announced his intentions to become football's most powerful man at a news conference in London. "We need a different Fifa," he said. "More democratic, more respected, which behaves better and which does more." However, he admits he will struggle to win the election if Blatter, who will be 78 in March, decides to stand for a fifth term of office. Asked if he could beat Blatter, Champagne, a former diplomat, said: "I don't think so, he's someone of relevance." He added: "I don't know whether Mr Blatter will run or not. Of course as matter of politeness I informed him what I was planning to do. "I don't know what he will do. Some people say I am manipulated by him but I tell you 'no'. I stand because I believe in what I saying." Blatter has been re-elected three times since becoming president in 1998 but has not yet said whether he will stand again. A former Fifa deputy general secretary, Champagne worked closely with Blatter between 2002 and 2005 before leaving the organisation in 2010. Since then, he has been working as an international football consultant in troubled regions including Kosovo, Palestine and Israel and Cyprus. Champagne suggests players could be sin-binned for two or three minutes for "in-between fouls committed in the heat of the moment". He cited the example of a player who had already been booked then receiving a second yellow card for taking off his shirt to celebrate a goal. Champagne also suggests allowing only team captains to approach a referee to question a decision and wants referees to be able to move the ball 10 yards further forward if a player is guilty of dissent. "More often than ever, matches are being marred by unacceptable scenes of players surrounding and haranguing the referee," he wrote in a document first published in March 2013. Brazil legend Pele, a three-time World Cup winner, said he supports Champagne's campaign. "I cannot stay away from a debate which is so important for the future of football," he said in a recorded message shown at Monday's news conference. "Thus, I support Jerome Champagne and his vision." Uefa president Michel Platini is also a possible candidate, although the former France midfielder has not yet declared his intentions.
Its corrupt. If Blatter stands Blatter wins. If Blatter doesn't stand and Platini does then Blatter's little lap dog wins (a guy that once wanted to ban headers). The only way this sensible chap is gonna win is if both of those choose not to stand
It's nice to see the idea of the captain being the only one that can address the ref being touted, even if this guy does fail to oust dodgy Blatter. Transparency in FIFA's wages is the thing that's going to doom him, though. Turkeys, Christmas.
Yes they have some dates in mind, they said it was a gamble in January, but it was to fit in with Tim's availabilty
'This all sounds very sensible. They'll never go for it' How true..... Every one of those suggestions is appropriate and would improve the game as a spectacle. Or in other words ...... No ****ing Chance!!
Apparently ossie ardiles has been involved in a serious car crash in the Falkland Islands. Get well soon ossie!!!!! Edit: media milking the story. - a nurse at the hospital has said he's fine. Also, Ricky villa was in the car, but no news on him yet.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25823043 Ex Spurs Argentinians in car crash in the Falklands. Sounds like a sureal play. Ossie ok it seems 20 stitches in head. I can't resist saying that for him to go to the Falklands he must need his head examined. Glad he is ok.
"I can't resist saying that for him to go to the Falklands he must need his head examined." AFAIK, one of his cousins was killed in the conflict. So he has a distinctly strong link to both of the countries involved.
Surprised it's not reported as Argentina's first wave of attack on the Falklands. Next is a wave of current footballers on Micro scooters. Glad to hear he, Ricky, and the other passengers are all okay.
Was very difficult for Ossie at the time. If it had happened now, the moron majority in society now would have made it a hundred times worse for both Ossie and Ricky.
Looks like the Y word issue has come to the fore again http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-25831077 Three charged over 'yid' chants at Tottenham Hotspur games The word, meaning Jew, was allegedly used at matches against FC Sheriff and West Ham United Three men have been charged with racial aggravation in connection with chanting the word "yid" at two football matches. Gary Whybrow, 31, of west London, Sam Parsons, 24, of Amersham, and Peter Ditchman, 52, of Bishop's Stortford, were charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words. The word, meaning Jew, was allegedly used at Tottenham Hotspur matches against FC Sheriff and West Ham United. The three men are due before Hendon Magistrates' Court on 4 February. "The alleged offences were racially aggravated within the terms of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998", the Metropolitan Police said. Mr Ditchman is also charged with possession of cocaine on 6 October, the same day as the Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham United match. In a statement, the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust (THST) said it was "saddened, but certainly not surprised, at today's decision by the Crown Prosecution Service to deem the use of the Y-word in any context as a prosecutable offence". "Since the first Spurs fan was arrested at White Hart Lane on 6 October, THST has worked closely with our legal team to establish a defence to these charges, which will now be tested in a court of law. "It remains our firm belief that, when used in a footballing context by Tottenham Hotspur supporters, there is no intent or desire to offend any member of the Jewish community."
I believe one of them came out of the East stand after the West Ham match and yelled "Yid Army" and was immediately arrested. Only hours earlier, dozens of West Ham "fans" had marched down the Totyenham High Road under Police supervision, chanting their usual offensive stuff. Surprise surprise, no arrests were made.
It's ****ing ridiculous, isn't it? I'm kind of glad that it is going to court though, I hope the THST raise some money and get them a good legal team because the outcome will set a precedent that we really can't afford to lose.
