The charges the SEC are filing against him are neither: other people made money off him sharing stock tips off the books, after loaning them the cash, not Lewis himself please log in to view this image
As far as I can see he has transferred his ENIC shares into a trust so that is now the majority Spurs owner rather than him personally. But he is still involved with ENIC as Chairman I think so it is still an issue if he is convicted.
Oh boy, welcome to the murky world of company ownership, because technically Lewis isn't ENIC chairman either A quick perusal of ENIC Group on HMRC's website (yes, there is a reason for being very specific, which we'll get to shortly...) says that he is not chairman, as the only persons of significant control listed are ENIC Ltd, who were incorporated in 2002 (i.e. the year after they bought the club) So who is Enic Ltd, I hear you ask? Well, looking at the persons of significant control there's two names: Donovan Wijsmuller (whose name is misspelled on the form, BTW) has somewhere between 25-49% of the shares and...oh look, there's Joe Lewis with somewhere between 50-74% of those shares So, onto the next obvious question: who is Donovan Wijsmuller? Well that takes us to High Road West (Tottenham) Ltd where he is a person of significant control, as are Katie Booth and Bryan Glinton, both Bahamian-based - although both Levy and Matthew Collecott are officers in the company so, even though Lewis nor his son Charles (who is an officer for ENIC Group, but not ENIC Ltd) are not listed in either company, it's reasonably clear that High Road West is ENIC-adjacent to some degree
Joe Lewis has surrendered to US authorities, report Bloomberg So I think we can all guess where we won't be having a pre season tour anytime soon...
Not immediately sure what has been done on this, but I do know that whatever has been done : 1. is in the "letter of the law" 2. ensures that while Uncle Joe may not be deemed a PSC on paper, nobody else can similarly within the "letter of the law" usurp his will (that he has via 70% ownership of ENIC) . "But he is still involved with ENIC as Chairman I think so it is still an issue if he is convicted." Companies House I assume would have to bar him from directorship of UK charities / ltd companies
He doesn't seem to be a Director of any UK company. His main business is the Tavistock Group which is registered in the Bahamas.
He's director of ENIC Ltd (not to be confused with ENIC Group) Now if you'll excuse me, I'm just going to punch a couple of cushions due to nobody remembering the shallow dive into all the ENIC-adjacent companies around the club I did...
No he isn't. He is a person with significant control but isn't a Director. If you search Joseph Charles Lewis a In the Officers section of Companies House you get no hits.
Tottenham Hotspur Ltd is deemed a PSC for Spurs. Uncle Joe was a PSC for them, but no longer so (the remaining two I assume enact his will) .
I read both but was replying to @The RDBD who was musing as to whether he would be disqualified as a Director. If he doesn't hold any Directorships then disqualification would be moot.
Interesting the BBC are now saying Lewis' family trust owns Spurs, not Joe Lewis Only took them twelve hours to get that right. All that effort from Lewis to dilute and obfuscate his involvement undone because the BBC apparently can't even use Wikipedia properly...
R.I.P Sinead O’Connor I didn’t care much for her music, but her passing does make you feel very mortal - only 56 years old.
Sad to see her go. I loved the one track that everybody associates her with - although I think Prince wrote it? Sad he went early too. The iconic video was superb
