That is my opinion too, but always better to have a large pool of opinion for what N should be. Who knows, perhaps using our collection of the stats Conte will do a Benitez on Pep and Klopp but inducing the response Fergie got from Keegan.
I think it’s less about counterattacking and more about playing on transitions. Pressing teams tend to force these higher up the pitch (think halfway line into the offensive 3rd) whereas Conte’s Spurs, while we press situationally and in quite a tactically interesting way last season, force transitions by blocking spaces in the middle and defensive 3rds and using the pace of the WBs, wingers and the ball playing ability of Kane to exploit the transitions. What Pep and Klopp moan about is end to end transitions, when they’re more than happy to play on transitions their own teams force in the middle and offensive 3rds. Therefore I’d contend that your counterattacking stat would be best calculated by looking at the time in possession between turnover and goal or shot, rather than when turnovers take place. Anything above 10s is statistically likely to have broken down and had the ball re-circulated into settled possession with the opposition getting back into shape and therefore shouldn’t be counted. I’m basing this off the thought that part of your interest in calculating this statistic is to prove or disprove the theory that we’re only a transitional side and have little creativity beyond that, as well as my own theory that management of space and momentum is more important in most sports than possession (or the equivalent statistic), and that pressing vs counterattacking teams in football are different sides of the same coin when it comes to this theory.
You could add a temporal component T. Which begs the question what is the largest value for T (15 seconds etc) after which even if a goal is scored after regaining possession, tis not deemed to be a "counter-attack" . "I’m basing this off the thought that part of your interest in calculating this statistic is to prove or disprove the theory that we’re only a transitional side and have little creativity beyond that" This aspect, but correspondingly it would also reveal the extent to which Spurs themselves are susceptible to it.
That only works on a Wednesday with an R in the month. Otherwise N = 2 (for suitably small values of N).
That is what I mean when I say I want a WOW signing, someone to feed Kane Son and Richarlison the way Kane does week in week out, am I pissing in the wind , not sure if there is a player out there but I can dream
Multiple extreme weather warnings now. The heat is an obvious one, but we're due heavy thunderstorms tomorrow, apparently. Flash flooding this time last year, so perhaps that's not a surprise.
What "miss" ?? Defender and GK got themselves in the path of the shot. If Kane was god-like, then perhaps he would have instantly dragged the ball to the left, leaving the defender and GK entangled, with a clearer shot on goal ...
Much as I love this glorious weather, I found last night almost intolerable. The warmest ever night apparently. I think I broke my own personal record which was about 15 pints and not one single piss.
< fixed > "The heat is an obvious one, but we're due heavy thunderstorms tomorrow, apparently. Flash flooding this time last year, so perhaps that's not a surprise.[" Flash floods in summer always seem to be worse to me (I got in an absolute monster of one 30 odd years ago ) .
