https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/60945430 Not so sure about this. Five subs when ET is being played, or more than three when a "leg breaker" injury occurs, I can live with. Other than that, I consider three to be sufficient and the timing of sub introduction (other than as I stated) to be a test of manager nous.
The most vocal clubs in favour of this are the most likely not to use them, bizarrely. It does emphasise our need for a large, balanced squad, though.
I like this tongue in cheek (I assume) comment from the BBC site "Multi ball would be great. Lots of them. But all different colours, score with a red for 2 goals, instant hat trick with a green, but the yellow gives and own goal. Score with the purple and you can nominate an opponent to receive an Instant red card. Score with the gold ball to allow all your subs and supporters to enter the game." It does highlight this constant tinkering with the rules. 10 years time and you won't recognise the game at all.
Perhaps if you could objectively measure squad strength by GK / defender / MF / forward a couple of days beforehand, you could then decide how many more above the three would be allowed for the game ( "equality of outcome" ) . Citeh vs the Poool this season with no injuries and 5 subs allowed, could be a seriously epic 90 mins. Citeh vs Norwich, with the former allowed 5 subs, would IMHO be utterly cruel.
Was thinking of it. But kind of in the saturation point for the MCU now. Wondering how superheroes don't fall over themselves getting into the fight with the supervillain, or if not where the hell are all the other superheroes when it's left to the one from this particular series/film to save the world? The other thing that I also hate about MCU (sorry not what you asked, but vaguely on topic) is the bit after the end credits. Used to be novel and you could sit through the interminable credits or not. Now it seems the end credits bit is often part of the story. If it's part of the story put it in the bloody film!
The tipping point will be if a new rule allows a player that has been subbed to come back on the field as one of the new subs. It's not too far then from US football different teams. We're a long way from that now (or are we) but let's see if anyone proposes that in future.
It's interesting how nobody ever seems to consider the alternative, namely that Messi could also have declared for Italy
This is going to sound weird but hear me out. I really wouldn't mind if us and Arsenal get top four if Chelsea miss out. Chelsea in its current form is an artificial club kept going by a very dodgy business model. I was surprised that there were so many (alleged) bids for them, though I hear now that there may be some reconsidering. What would really help that reconsidering though is if they miss out on CL football. So well done Brentford and lets have more like that. Yes I know I shouldn't be wishing good things on Arsenal, but at the present time I'd rather kick Chelsea when they are down.
I hate Chelsea more than Arsenal, and have done probably since the season we finished 4th and still missed out on CL football.
