Not true. Failing to get rid of a devaluing asset can lead to it being worth even less. Replacing it with something worthwhile justifies some spending.
That's illogical. If you know the asset is devaluing then that makes its current value less. So you have to find someone who doesn't think it is devaluing to buy it off you for more than you think it is worth.
You can both agree that it's worth less than you paid for it and still think it's a good deal for both parties. An asset isn't necessarily worth the same amount to everyone, especially in this example. Us keeping hold of a fringe player who won't play could see their perceived value plummet. Even loaning them out for nothing could work out well, in that case.
Thats part of the equation. But managing a football squad is managing resources. Wages, HG/non-HG squad spots, time on the pitch. If there are players we can replace them with who will be injured less often (admittedly hard to judge) and either have the potential to improve with the same game time or immediately be better then that’s when you make the move, as long as you can get a fee you’re happy with.
I agree with all that. But it isn't cutting your losses unless you can find this other party who is prepared to overvalue the player....which is what I said in the first place
And that’s why it’s hard to judge. ‘Happy’ is such a flexible concept. I imagine it’s easier to sell if you’re City because a) the kind of squad player they’re likely to sell is going to be better (or at least going to be assumed to be better) than the kind we might sell, for example. And b) a club like City has more financial flexibility in terms of being able to accept a lower fee if it means they can make the optimal choice football-wise. We haven’t been in a position to do that recently. You also have to find a club the player is willing to go to, and who can offer them the right wage. Selling players in real life is really, really tricky, especially the kind we were struggling to get off our books until the summer just gone.
If you know it is going to get worse then you should be happy with a lower fee. You need to find a club who thinks the player will be better than you do.
You need to find a club that's happy to sign the player. You can both think that he'll be good for that club but not good for your club. De Bruyne wasn't going to work out for Chelsea, as they had Courtois on the books and preferred him. It says nothing about how they valued him or whether they thought he was going to do well elsewhere.
Have always lived in the Plumstead area of London ... this sums up why... It takes real passion to see this advert... get offended...go buy a spray can...come back and do this
