Very sad, must confess i only really know here through top gear, but seeing her drive that Transit was unforgettable
I was there that day and also at the replay. The almost the whole crowd were in a state of shock and after a few minutes both sets of supporters were chanting his name . There were, unfortunately,a couple of idiots near me who were complaining that the match was called off. I too was convinced he had died. A huge well done to the medical staff and also to Fabrice for his subsequent work to bring heart health for young men to the fore.
Was at his return with my eldest daughter .... was really moving when he knelt down at the spot he collapsed.
RIP Peter , I wont hide it he was a member of my most hated team at the time supported by kids in the south of England who didn't have the foggiest where Leeds was , supported by those kids who now support the likes of the two Manchester clubs
A great player from my youth, one of the few players from Revies Leeds side that almost everyone respected as a player, he scored some fabulous goals and the power of his shots is legendary.
Hot Shot Lorimer a totally accurate description. The number scored from 25 to 30+ yards was incredible. You rarely see strikes from that range today. RIP Peter
Obviously we don't have the stats on his success rate on those kind of shots (nor how they compare with his peers) , but that compilation vid does show that Lorimer had very good technique when attempting them.
Very sad that another of that Leeds team has gone - so many have died recently. Not many were old by modern day standards. That successful Leeds team was a little before my time, but I do recall him at Leeds in the old 2nd Division. I saw him play for Leeds at Oldham in 1985 - he scored a penalty. The Leeds team contained Denis Irwin, Andy Ritchie, Andy Linighan, John Sheridan and Tommy Wright, all of whom went on to play for Oldham - and some of those went on to bigger and better things. Irwin was a free transfer!
The club's social media accounts reposted this today following Vini's first PL goal. I must have completely missed it when it was first released. And someone must have been chopping onions around halfway through. All I can say is: what an absolute boss. Also Lucas is probably the nicest bloke in world football.
Sadly, another football Great has passed away. RIP Frank Worthington, a truly talented player of the 70’s and scorer of one the best goals I’ve seen.
Worthington was from the era of Best, Marsh , Hudson , Bowles , Currie all players that as Spurs fans we disliked but secretly would have love them to have played for us I read a story about him in a Birmingham night club toilet at 2.30 am wearing a white suit and smoking a *** , the teller recognised him and said " not playing tomorrow? Frank replied Yes were at home , he scored a hat-trick
