Same two again, tewkes. Brentford very unfortunate- they dominated that half but 'udders got that dubious goal and the momentum completely swung. I think the bees will take it though. If not they Rosler will talk about 'udders expensively assembled squad.
Sheffield utd deserved a point at least and got nothing oh well am I bovered nope....7 clear and a game in hand quality
Agree with Pats summary. We were poor today going forward. Pritchard should have been substituted rather than Green who was our only goal threat. Kermit and BWP got kicked s@@@less and did well to keep their heads. BwP needs a goal or a rest. I'd say the latter. Hamer was shaky today. I like him but he gave me the jitters. Deserved his booking. Was wasting time repeatedly in the first half and getting on my tits. Only thing the ref did right all day. Nice touch the blades fans applauding our youths at half time. Good away support. Sheffield deserved something out of the game. Magnificent result for us but don't lets kid ourselves that we are firing on all cylinders. Back 4 immense but we need a shake up in mid field. An ugly win but I'll have it. COYR
Charltonpat's summary is a good one. Based on the last two games, I think Sheff Utd are a superior team to Wednesday, but I think we played better last weekend. Looked too much like the away team yesterday. The timewasting especially wound me up. Another great goal from JJ. Didn't think Russell deserved to walk. At least as mentioned earlier it's a position with lots of cover. When all's said and done, it's another 3 points, and 7 points clear of second with a game in hand. I'll take that.
Happy Boy this morning to say the least ! Was at the Valley early so thought id have a pint under the Covered End, and had a punt for 1-0 with Jacko scring first ! - put a fiver on at 38-1 - so, 190 pounds win - tidy ! We were fortunate to win - under the cosh for most of the game, and some players were obviously below par - and some of the time-wasting is not us,and as IA said, isnt needed/wanted. Jackos freekick was brilliant, hit with power, dip and swerve right in the corner - absolutely perfect. What the other poster didnt say about his 2nd was as well as hitting Row Z, it went for a throw-in ! (although SheffU took a goal-kick) Thought the ref wasnt too bad until he lost it around 60 mins with the Wiggins incidents in the corner, and not stopping United continually taking their free kicks 5 metres closer than they actually were. Hamer had quite a few crosses to deal with , for which he flapped at most, but i dont recall a single shot he had to save. Now, the back 4 were IMMENSE - ABSOLUTELY IMMENSE. I'll post some player ratings on the other thread. Overall, as most fans said, we won ugly, like we seem to have done a lot of this season - a sign of a good team. Another thing i noticed is the obvious togetherness of the team - one example is Hamer before the game started going around the pitch and giving everyone a hug !
Pritchard did try hard but was lost in the game, why Chris left him on all 90 was a total mystery to me as he was one slightly bad tackle away from a red! We only made two subs all game and Haynes can play right wing? Also when Sheffield had total control of midfield why did Chris wait so long to bring on Russell into midfield? Hollands couldn't make up for Pritchard being a passenger especially as Sheffield were playing with three in centre midfield. Also why did Pritchard not shoot at the end of the first half? At the edge of the box with defenders backing away he decided to try to pass to Green who was marked? Is Pritchard having confidence issues?
I was also surprised Pritchard wasn't subbed, but oddly enough his game did improve when he realised he wasn't being subbed. He will need to get back to his best if he's to keep Stephens out. His composure in midfield would have helped yesterday.
This free kick was better than last weeks... Blooming amazing. This was how I saw Pritchard last week. Now Russell's out for 3 games, I don't want Stephens rushed back (only if he's 100%), but Pritchard has got to start dominating and not put it all on Hollands. Last week I noticed that neither Pritchard or Hollands were able to get forward much, was that the same as y'day?
I think it's more like physical stature/stamina issues. He's a small bloke who takes a lot of punishment during a game, however hard he scraps for the ball, in a straight 50/50, he's going to end up on his backside more often than not. He's also played only half a league season after playing non-league for the rest of his career, there could be a bit of a fitness hangover from that. All this said, love watching him play.
Can't fault his enthusiasm for the game, tewkes. Could well be he needs to adapt to league football a bit more. CP has shown an incredible amount of faith by starting him in the last 2 games.
First opportunity I've had to post. It is our defence that will make us champions this season, not our attack. United, who are a much much better team than Wednesday, had a lot of the ball and some very skillful players but could not break us down, creating very few genuine chances. All of the back four deserve huge credit. Hamer - he did take one very good catch under pressure but dropped other, easier, ones. I've no doubt he will work on that. It wasn't Pritchard's best game (he still put in one world class turn though) so changes will be needed. Exeter are a neat passing side so Stephens would probably be the best bet. No-one ever talks about Hollands either, perhaps he could do with a break. Our fluid passing game has been lost somewhat, admittedly in two big games, but we can't keep relying on Jacko specials to get us wins. Kermorgant and BWP didn't really link up at all today, even though both played well individually. As for Russell - his challenge was like that of Kompany's. Perhaps harsh, but it gave the ref the opportunity to send him off. Great celebration from Powell at the end.
Based on yesterdays display, maybe a blow back on the bench might be due. However, with Russell out for 3 games it might lead to a recall for Stephens - then again, knowing CP as we do, he wont want to change a winning team , and i wouldnt be surprised if he kept the same for our next game.
Captain, agree with your concise view. Hollands to me was anonymous for most of the game. BWP and Kemit got very little of the ball for long periods of the game. Got a bit concerned about Green continuing to shoot from all angles and hitting row z all the time, and also when he bottled out of the 50/50 in the 2nd half
stu - Green had 2 shots that the keeper had to save, I can't recall him blazing any over. I think he's slowly getting better at the defensive side of his game, even if he hates it. He knows he's not a good tacker, hence why sometimes it may look like he bottles out.
Yeah , 2 shots that he put straight at the goalie !! What about the free-kick in the first half that he had a blast at and mis-kicked - that was embarassing !!!!
