Brilliant career he had. To only play 2 games was odd to say the least. I saw the Arsenal game and he looked quality, if a bit slow. His reading of the game and organising stood out. He was only a sub so maybe Reid had already made his mind up. Paul Butler played ahead of him, and as much as I liked Butler it was quite a call. When Steve Bould came in the same summer I did think the alternate a bit. Bould was class for us, but only managed 21 games. The two of them could have been great in that squad. We finished 7th, so maybe Reid was right after all.
Harsh, but true. Let me tell you how good a judge I am. When Southend came to Roker one year they had Collymore and and Angell up front. I said in the pub afterwards Angell was the better of the two. I was alone on that one
