I'd say we won the league in 2009 because of a combination of our form and your fk ups. After all, we finished with 90 points which I think would have been a record for second place! We drew 6, lost 4 and you guys drew 11, lost 2. And in the end it wasn't the form in the big games that won it - you guys got 14 from a possible 18 against the big 4 whilst we only got 5, and didn't beat any of the top 8 away from home. But we got six points from every team between 9th and 20th place except Newcastle, which more than made up for the dropped points against the big teams. In contrast Liverpool were one of only six or seven teams not to get 3 points when Stoke and Man City came to visit.
It should have won it though, those games and points double over ye and chelsea the main contenders and only lost 2. We failed on a prerequisite and delivered on a might be possible Still scratching my head over how we had so many draws We're talking 3 goals more over an entire season at the end of the day, that was the difference.
Actually only two goals. Had you beaten City and Stoke you'd have won the title on GD. But then that's why Utd have been so successful in the PL - whatever happens in the big games and wherever we are in the table we generally keep going and grind out the results against the smaller teams when our rivals slip up. I still remember that game last season (I think) when Benitez took Torres off at 1-1 and Gerrard just looked at him as if to say "what do we do now?". I can't imagine a Utd player ever giving SAF that look if he'd taken off Ronaldo back in 07/08 when he was far and away our star man.
A look?, we can have an opinion on but lets not look foolish by saying we know what he was thinking. Fergie has gotten many a look from players he was subbing, does it really make a diffrence? ANd even if Gerrard was giving that look, to mention it (a non related thing so I respond in kind) when your star striker has to be chastised in the game of his life, all is not as harmonious as you make out
What in God's name has Hernandez got to do with anything? 'Stewart Downing scared United to death' Did he? I don't remember seeing that. We hammered Villa at home. I doubt as well that he would come up with such a stupid statement had you not signed Downing this summer. The other thing. He believes Bent isn't a top finisher? That is all Bent does. He doesn't really have anything else to his game BUT finishing off the chances he is given. His record speaks for itself. Are you then telling me you wouldn't be happy with Bent? 17 goals in 26 last season, 24 in 38 the year before. And that is in a midtable team. If he is given a decent run he will score goals. Just like Hernandez. His job is to finish. Put him in a decent position and he will score. He doesn't need to have great crossing ability or create chances for other players because there are people in the team who can do that.
