Back when football was played on a cow field against a teams whose players were brickies and road sweepers.
This was a decent thread for a few pages.....

Still **** mate. The biggest trophy Forest or Derby will win going forwards is the Brian Clough trophy

Back on track, it depends on the criteria. I wouldn't consider us a big club despite last season. A medium sized club definitely (all the more shame on the rest last season). In terms of the East Midlands though, I think Forest ultimately are a big club albeit that was years ago. Derby aren't particularly big IMO. Sheffield clubs have a good history
Local banter included though Mark, we'll always call either other ****, I come from right in the middle of Leicester, Notts and Derby and had all sorts of winds ups from them over the years so it was nice to win the title to join the club so to speak
The best recent history .... a league title that everyone on here witnessed for one ....

Simple you are indeed ... I can remember your historic meltdowns about us which started when we went on the end of season run that had you staining your scanties ... ...
Could you just remind me what Sunderland have actually won in your lifetime .... take your time ... you wouldn't want to miss anything.
On the sunject of big clubs - back in the 1970s where FA Cup replays continued until somebody won or died (actually they just went to neutral grounds if the replay was drawn but would then play successive games there until the tie was decided) I got to see 2 fixtures at the old Fibert Street of that type. The first was Ipswich v Leeds. The second Arsenal v Sheff Wednesday (who were in the old 3rd division). Wednesday's support was awesome - they took 3/4s of the ground compared to Arsenal. Those were the days when the cup was the holy grail. Just shows the contrasting fortunes of both clubs in that Arsenal are now pretty much a global brand in a 60,000 seater stadium whilst Wednesday are still playing at an antiquated Hillborough.
As a Sunderland supporter .... why on earth did you feel you were qualified to start this particular thread btw?

And it really doesnt matter when you won the league, the fact is if it was so easy then why the **** didn't somebody else. Iirc only 24 clubs have ever won the English league. That hardly shows that winning the league was any easier.
Couple that with European Cups and domestic cups it's fairly obvious that Nottingham Forest is easily the biggest club in the East Midlands.
Special mention to Aston Villa. Biggest club in the West Midlands.
So basically the two biggest clubs in the midlands are Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa and they piss on all the others in the region from a great height

Yup ... that's about it ... sore bitter losers ... thought they were going to emerge from the Gunners shadow only to melt when the pressure was on
