i think nicky sharkey was only 15 as was derick foster when they made there debute ????? <bubbly>

Certainly Derek Foster (goalkeeper) was only 15 years old on his (forced) debut... Both senior goalies were 'out'
Might be wrong but I think he made his debut v Leics City at Roker 3 - 3

He only had a couple of games, as we were shipping goals left right and centre ...
:)

I remember Sharkey very well. Amazing header of the ball for one so 'short'.
I was there the night we beat Norwich 7 -1

He ended up at Leics City, signed by Matt Gillies...
:)

You should try heading them when they were wet, I used to pray I wouldn't get it on the lace when the keeper kicked it out, split my head open more than once.

Speaking of the Leicester game, Charlie Hurley spent so much time keeping on Foster he was off his usual game. I recall Cloughie writing in the Sunday Mirror that it was the measure of a great player when people talked of him having a terrible game rather the usual Hurley praise.

Somebody should show Steve Bruce this thread and ask him why we didn't seem to have any problems with Cec being a Geordie, maybe it was because he knew the game and was a good honest footballer.

Yes I think Derek Foster's first game was a 3 - 3 draw with Leicester in 1964. I also think the Leicester goalie was a guy called Gordon Banks.
