think there were some discounted ones..still had to get the people to go...think the weather helped mind, as it was quite mild, instead of **** like it usually is.
Good question and i checked their marketing for the game, and the answer is they didn't do any promotion that no other League One club has not done in the past or may have done on the day. It's certainly customary to offer two discounted tickets for friends and family of ST Holders. It's a pretty awesome attendance, probably never to be matched again by any other club at this low level.
3-0 down at St Mary’s the season the dream burst and they got relegated from the PL, and they were all still singing. But what really got my respect was what they were singing - “What the fu-uck, what the fu-uck, what the **** is going on?”
I still remember our cup game at Spurs (WHL) when we got slaughtered 5-0 - what made the day was the fans stood the whole game and sang throughout. In fact the only time Spurs supporters made any noise is when they scored, so they got to cheer five times in 90 minutes! Away supporters are by far the best, half the home support these days do nothing but sit down and moan or in Tottenham's case moan they bought tickets for a different ground
and to be fair, it looked like some of them changed the usual Sunderland routine and even stayed until the end.
