I'm pretty sure they are in terms of support. I might be wrong, but I certainly thought that was the case.
Depends how you measure support really. United, Barcelona, Real, Arsenal, Chelsea, Juventus and Bayern Munich all claim, on their own measurement, to have the most 'supporters' in the world.
United dominate Asia though don't they. We're talking about 2 billion people in China and India alone. My Indian housemate says that if you're into football in India, you support United or Liverpool.
Yeah, but teams like Juventus and Bayern don't count them as supporters. Their claims are based on numbers of registered supporters or something. United based their last claim on number of Facebook likes. Real Madrid recently announced that they sold more shirts than anybody else in the world (ignoring the fact that a lot of shirts sold in Asia and Africa are fake, so wouldn't be counted) and Barcelona just claim they have the most supporters (without really giving any evidence) because they are arrogant. OK perhaps it has a teensy bit to do with them having the highest turnover of any football club. Chelsea pulled up some statistic that they have the most supporters in sub-saharan Africa (the next big growth market for football).
I don't see many European teams going to South America so perhaps Saints should go on a tour there next pre-season and build-up a big following on that continent!
These long haul tours are not good as preparation for the season...they only serve as a means of spreading the word. At this stage in Saints renaissance, it's better to go with what works...a good preseason in the near continent...good facilities, bit of sun on their backs and getting fitness back.
He is indeed a great player and had a great season but only one injury free season in the last 8 seasons,i think they should sell to the highest bidder...cant see him repeating last seasons goal tally.
Maybe his poor performance at the Euros will keep his price down. I agree that before last season he seemed to be constantly crocked!
