I think this is **** for Beverley. The great thing about Beverley was the charm of the town centre - this will probably do to the town centre what St Stephens has done to Hull City Centre - made it an eyesore by creating loads of empty shops in the centre.
It could have a detrimental effect, but Beverley is mainly small shops and they won't move, so it remains to be seen if these new bigger stores will attract a lot of additional shoppers to the town. They're unlikely to end up with loads of empty units, there's a lot more demand for retail space in Beverley.
I believe there was a hint of tweed. He was looking into a bespoke something shop going " wah wah wah" , the noise of a snobby person. The word bespoke didn't exist when I was at school, it must have come from Beverley.
The Lord mayor of bev lives opposite my mother-in-law, He cut the tape the other day I think... He got a new gas boiler, my mother-in-law has to wait Till April ... She's quite frail and has trouble walking, And she has old economy 7 heaters.. He on the other Hand is in good health, there is ten feet between their Flats but apparently he is in more need of the upgrade Than her..... ****ing crap !!!!
There still was a few empty shops when I was last in Beverley. That was part of the charm that it was stoically independent traders. Now there's a big **** development that looks like the same big **** development in any other town. Some of the retailers must be concerned as they are going dual site (Bolo and Guest Phillips) I bet this will be to see which site is best? I can't see the benefit of dual retail sites for either of those two retailers in a place the size of Beverley. Wilko moved out of the town. I can see why they have built it - they are latching onto the 2014 best places to live published in the Sunday Times. So how much did it cost? HDM say £70m Wykeland £120m BBC £125m ITV £125m How come the HDM are so far out with their information?
I recently looked into opening a store in Beverley, there were only three really prime units available, but when I checked, one had already been taken and the other two were under offer. Units in Beverley rarely stay empty for more than a matter of months, not unless they're in secondary sites. Guest Phillips are stocking different stuff in the new store, it's a new younger and cheaper concept. Bolo are always moving, their Prospect Centre store only seems to have been open five minutes and it's moving already and the new Beverley one is massive compared to the current one. I think a lot depends on the quality of the retailers they end up with in the new development, if they want to pull the crowd that normally shop in Leeds and York, they'll have to do better than Primark and Wilko's. As for the cost, I'd go with Wykeland, they should know what it cost them.
Apparently the builders owe the shops 100k due to being a week late, I've no idea if this is true but my daughter told me and she's a market trader in Saturday market
My mother went to have a look, she wasn't that impressed but she did find the cricket players walking about on stilts amusing (don't ask me)
City are opening a shop in the complex too.I went into Debenhams and I wondered if this was the first escalator in Beverley?I don't normally think these things, but it was a hard day at work! Can anybody else think of a building in Beverley with an escalator?
I've been working on the site recently. The penalties are about £80k per week. Even though it's open only 30% of the units are occupied. There's still loads to do which could take at least a couple of weeks yet.
There's only really Browns that's big enough and that's got a lift, so it probably is the first escalator.
Maybe that was the building cost excluding the land, whereas the others is the full cost. Though £50M for land does sound high.
