    I normally have a rule - don't bet when you're drunk.

The first time I ignored this was on May 25th 2005. Half time champions league final, Liverpool 0 AC Milan 3. I'd had a bottle of wine and was only half watching, as we'd just got relegated a few days earlier and was p@ss@d off with football. I turned on my computer and went to Betfair, put £5 on 3-3 at 150-1, £5.00 that Liverpool would score next at 2-1, and £5.00 that Liverpool would miss a penalty at 5-1. My other half wondered why at 3-2 I started getting really interested in the game - I 'confessed' to having a little flutter on 3-3 (I told her it was £1 at 50-1!). After 90 mins I had won £785 plus my stake of £15! I didn't care who won after that! Paid for my season ticket for the next season with it......! (and a takeway that weekend as "didn't you win £50 on wednesday darling...)

Rookie mistake. Never bet on the favourite in tennis (let alone in a 250 tournament. Backing the underdog is far safer.

On the thread, last season i had a couple of doozies. Had about £1500 on saints to beat Carlisle in the JPT final, cos it seemed like free money (the happiest man in Wembley when we went 4-0 up). Also won about £6000 on an over/under 2.5 goals bet on Man City Wigan. Stake was about 4 grand which I put on over 2.5 in running after about 25 minutes with the score 0-0. Turned off the radio when it was still 0-0 at 70 minutes and the Wigan keeper was playing a blinder. At about half 11 went on BBC to check how it ended, and saw Tevez had scored a 10 minute hat trick. At that moment I would quite literally have had that mans babies if he so desired.

Mine has to be a couple years back when i wasn't even old enough to bet and got my older brother to go in for me. a 6 team accumulator, put a fiver on and was on a £210 stake. every team was winning except a relegation threatened luton who were 1-0 down with 10 minutes to go. came back to watch the results being read out on final score to see luton win 3-1. £210 was alot for a social obsessed 15 year old and i vaguely remember spending it all on Alcohol and a wonderful class b Herb.

There was also the other time i bet on Pompey to beat tottenham in the fa cup semi final, £10 worth of bets all on pompey and ended up winning near £100. Only time i've ever supported pompey. Was especially hard to contain myself when the second goal went in, seeing as i was in a Tottenham pub

If I ever won money betting on Pompey to win I'd feel dirty. Its the equivalent of selling blood diamonds as far as i'm concerned...

Hard to believe but i nearly hate Tottenham fans as much as Pompey. And i knew pompey would beat them. That season even though they got relegated the team had alot of spirit.
