Strong rumours that Claude Puel will be named our manager - I genuinely have no real opinion on this as I can barely remember him.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

Good at Nice, sacked from Southampton after 1 season despite an 8th place finish and a cup final as they didn't score enough goals (not that they conceded much either). But yeah we're the harsh sacking club and ones like that get no mention.
For the record they seem similar this season so maybe it wasn't the manager but the players

Puel article on SSN now saying hes "closing in"

Not the most inspiring for the players, but has proven he can win in the Prem. Was criticized at Southampton for negative football and not scoring enough goals, though you could argue that they didn't have the best attacking options.

Don't be deceived by their league position last year, they were just top of the "rest", only 6 points away from 17th, but they obviously had their cup run, so you could factor that into it.

Is there a fence somewhere i can sit on?

Im not happy about Claude Puel. Last time I was this unhappy about us appointing a manager we appointed Claudio Ranieri

So will give him a chance. He just played boring **** football at Southampton but hopefully we us having better attacking players he use that rather then focusing on defending

We get criticised but that was a joke sacking, 8th and a cup final not good enough for Southampton apprarently. I don't think they've been any better this season, they have struggled for scoring goals so I will give Puel a chance and put that down to what he had at his disposal there and he was hardly given time to address it. We have much better attacking options, if he can sure us up at the back and utilise the forward players I'm quietly confident even if he's not the most inspiring choice

TBF , if you look at our board , several are saying the same thing .

He Sounded dull not that should really be an issue , but the new man is facing the same problems .

As regards the 8th place , yes but iirc 15 points less than the previous season not good .

You reached the cup final though. TBH I'll confsss I just have become pissed off with the dogs abuse we get for daring to have ambition and sack a manager but it's fine for other clubs to do it when it's harsh. Even this time people are making it all about Ranieri

Fair enough - could have been a hell of a lot worse and Michael Appleton is still Assistant Manager.

Now how the hell you do pronounce his surname?

Good on you. People don't realise that it's been more about the dire performances since the title not just results, something you guys can relate to with Puel. As your current manager hasn't managed to drastically chance things, in quietly hopeful it may have been more to do with your squad at that time than Puel himself and with the forwards we have maybe things will be different. I'm certainly not writing him off like many are

The lack of posts would suggest 2 things

    (A) we are confused about the appointment

    (B) is this another ranieri type masterstroke

And we dont know how to react... does lightening ever strike twice. Haha

I'm ok with this. Let's see what he can do with our squad, Southampton had had another fire sale, their squad wasn't great yet he did ok. I've read he likes 3-5-2

Yeah . As I said , quite a few are asking what has actually changed sine MP2 came in . 2 managers same problems .

I am no expert and no longer a fan as such , but still take an interest in the Saints , so please don’t take my opinion seriously .

    Good luck either way .
