I know a property developer. He's successful and loaded. But like all property developers he's had some bad times. At a Christmas do a couple of years ago he got pissed and told a few of us about his experience during the last property crash. The banks suddenly called in loans on part complete developments that he was struggling to shift off plan. He had to find cash fast so told a local estate agent to find a tenant for his massive house but it had to be done off market as he didn't want his wife to know what he was up to. When a tenant had been found he told his missus that he'd had a cold call about someone renting the house and the money offered was too good to turn down. She agreed that they should rent a smaller place and make the most of the "opportunity". With the rental income he managed to get through 12 months of hell fighting the banks and trying to stay afloat. He said he'd lie awake at night thinking he was ****ed, while his missus remained blissfully unaware that they were on the brink. I asked him what his missus made of it all when he came out the other side and told her. He said that to this day she still has no idea.
And this ^ gentlemen, is why women live longer than men. He played that well like, dealt his Mrs big time on the downsize.
