Yes not exactly Saints related but I saw this on another forum and thought some of the answers were pretty interesting. So if you could pick a team from anyone outside the top 6 (Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal) what would it be? As I have far too much time on my hands I have looked through the thread on the other forum and this is what the most popular XI is from there: GK: Butland RB : Cedric CB: Mee CB: VVD LB: Bertrand RM: Mahrez CM: Cork CM: Gueye LM Zaha AM: Richarlison ST: Vardy Not the most balanced of teams but I just went for the most popular answer in their respective postions, got me thinking, what would yours be? And even with a "best of the rest" team I don't think it would be able to compete with the top teams, I'd be very confident that all of the top 6 would beat that team more times than not.
I would have most CM over Cork. (Romeu, Lemina, Morgan, Fletcher, Hendricks, Cabaye, Allen) just to name a few. And Shaqiri would be challenging those 3 for an attacking role.
Out of the ones you listed only Lemina and Romeu got any votes. Shaqiri got a few but not enough compared to the others, personally I think that team is pretty spot on attacking wise.
People probably haven't seen enough of Lemina yet whereas Cork has been consistently very good for years now. I think Doucoré is worthy of a mention though. He's been quite superb this year. I wonder how this would have looked a couple of years ago. I bet the team strip would have been red and white stripes.... Edit: although we were top six a couple of years ago of course!
I guess you get into the debate of best players based on form or potential e.g. look at Sigurdsson and Gueye. Pickford Soares van Dijk Ake Bertrand Lemina Gudmundsson Mahrez Sigurdsson Lanzini Vardy Subs: Heaton, Sahko, Gueye, Cleverley, Mooy, Richarlison and Zaha
I love the idea of this thread, but I hate the way looking at it makes me realise how much we’ve underperformed this season!
not really, our defence and midfield have been pretty good and we would have players in that team, our attack has been **** which has been our problem for a year now, so its a fair reflection
I'd suggest it's a mixture of under-performance, and a glorious opportunity horrendously missed by the board. The building blocks are in place, if only we had just made those two, are maybe three, key offensive additions. A Saints back half and a Leicester front half.
