I think there are plenty of people who acknowledge that FF8 was the best, but a lot of people I have spoken to about it say it confused them at the start and they gave up on it too quickly. When it came out I must have been 9 years old and I remember the junction system confused the hell out me back then. I remember having to watch the tutorials over and over to remind myself how to do it. I've played through 7, 8 and 9 again over the last couple of years, as they're really cheap to download on the PS3, and reaffirmed my love for 8 in particular. In fact just talking about it now is making me want to start it again.

8 had parallel levelling, which was an immediate turn-off for me. Whenever you levelled up, so did the monsters. Ergo there was absolutely no point in levelling up. I might have enjoyed it had it not been for this. 9 and 7 were far better.

Joe, have you ever played any of the earlier Nintendo versions?

IV was my favourite, you end up on the moon at one point with some really great moon music to accompany you on your way. Only the music to pique your interest.

I think the rumours about Fallout 4 being in the Mojave again comes from this quote from a Bethesda developer

When asked to give hints as to the setting of the next Fallout game, Jason Bergman said (translated from Norwegian), "You'll get no tips from me. But the Mojave Wasteland was a fun place to explore, wasn't it?"

Could just be mis-direction though, which I hope it is as there are many more interesting locations to explore personally I think San Francisco inc Alcatraz in some way would be great.

For serious gaming there is nothing better than Fallout for me. For easy pick up and entertain you can't beat any incarnation of mario kart.

I'm pretty sure that's not true. I used to level my characters up in that training center, and the monsters would get easier and easier to beat. I specifically remember that once I got my characters up to level 13 I was able to beat a T-Rexaur. And that I was able to do the Ifrit mission inside 10 minutes. You might need to go back and play it again.

Despite never having played that game, I do recognise the music. Maybe they used it when you go into space in 8.

If I remember correctly, there's a certain point around level 15-20 when if you've got your junctions sorted right, the game is a breeze.

That being said FFVI is clearly the best.

Nobuo Uematsu wrote some beautiful music for FF.

I think this would be my favourite piece, from Terra in IX

"It's a T-Rexaur...Squall, do you remember how to use the trigger?"

Oppps, I seem to have bought the Pitt and Project Anchorage. Damn ebay being so quick and easy to use. #extravagant

On the subject of game soundtracks, I think the soundtrack can play a massive role in a game. One game I bought because of the soundtrack. That is Lords of Magic: Special Edition which is quite an old game. The music is just so very atmospheric. For example:

I like the fact that the water one sounds like whales at one point and physically sounds underwater.

Also, Meowth, seeing as you like the Pokemon games (which I do too, they're pretty good. I remember on the way back from a school trip once playing Pokemon Yellow on my friend's Game Boy), have you played a game called Jade Cacoon? The gameplay is similar to Pokemon except instead of Pokeballs, you use a flute to capture and summon creatures. You can also crossbreed them which can create some interesting apperances and may give them more strengths but also more weaknesses (i.e. if you breed an air-based creature with a water-based creature, you'll gain both the advantages and disadvantages of both air and water). I thought it was a really good game! If they sold it on Play Station store, I would so buy it!
