Best team ever?

I thought Stringer achieved the most as he put that squad together and had the better team. But I believe some of the current squad would have a chance of getting into and improving that side eg Holt for Rosario.

wasn't crook signed by ken brown? could be wrong - its right on the edge of what i can remember!
 
The biggest thing about the sides of Stringer and Walker is that each of those built on what was already there. From the late 70's (before my time as a supporter, I was born in 77) the club consistently built on the work of the previous manager. Taking nothing away from either Stringer or Walker, they both had problems to sort out as well, but that firm footing is a luxury that no City manager has had since.

Edit: Yes Superman, I'm pretty sure Brown signed Crook.

hopefully, that is what mcnally and lambert are doing! creating foundations <ok>
 
Stringers team were better but walkers boys were more entertaining in terms of goals per game (typically).

It was during Mike Walkers reign (the season we came 3rd) that I managed to get to every game home and away, including all cup games no matter how trivial. Pure coincidence that I decided that season to put everything else to one side and do what I had wanted to do for years but never could.

It was by far the best season I experienced despite some defeats along the way. To feel confident of going to places like Old Trafford, Villa Park, Highbury, Anfield etc knowing we at least had a fighting chance of getting 1 point or more was simply brilliant.

I seriously doubt we will ever have a team that will compare (for Maestro) to the Stringer/Walker years but live in hope that I will be proved wrong <ok>

Certainly seems so, but let's hope we can hang on to Lambo for just a little bit longer.

The defences in the Stringer era were for the most part better: Butterworth, Bowen, Culverhouse, Bruce etc. are all fondly regarded today. I really rated players like Crook, Townsend and Kevin Drinkell too. Some of the others were a little ropey and I don't think the likes of Robert Rosario, Dean Coney and Wayne Biggins would get anywhere near the top division now. Anybody see Coney's only goal off his backside?
 
In my opinion, the Mike Walker team of the inaugural Premiership season is the best Norwich team I have seen. I remember us beating Wimbledon and going eight points clear at one stage, only to finish third eventually. We dished out some fearsome beatings that season, winning five-one at Everton and 4-Nil at Leeds (Jeremy Goss scoring a wonder goal which even the Leeds fans applauded!).

Had we strengthened when it really mattered we would have stood a great chance of winning the title. Those were the days. Shame it's probably never likely to happen again. I loved the shirts from that season as well!

I'll tell you what I remember from that season! Monday 23rd December, an evening kick-off! I was living in Lincoln at the time, we were 9 points clear at the top of the league! I had bragged to two mates that I would show them how the beautiful game should be played!

We sat in the Lower Barclay and watched the binners beat us 2 - 0! I had so much egg on my face on the drive back to Lincoln! I've not been to a live City game since! I'm convinced it was my fault!

Oh happy days!

Don't worry worse happened to me, I told my friend who had never seen a live norwich match at carrow road that we would thrash MK Dons in the Carling Cup, what happened...we lost 4-0...so humiliating. Fortunately he came last season to the ipswich beamback which was shown opposite the dugout at Carrow Road, in which as we all know 1p5swich :D
 
Wasn't Mike Walker sacked soon after the 5-0 tonking we gave you at Portman Road that year? The look on his face was just priceless as he trudged off afterwards!
