Everyone has excessive amounts of TV money. When Rafa and Houllier were in charge there were 3 or 4 teams with a lot of money. We were one of them. Now there are 3 teams with insane money (MU, MC, Chelsea) and 17 teams with a lot of money. We've lost our financial advantage.
I understand that we all love Klopp, but to rate him above Rafa or Houlier at this moment is a bit premature, he hasnt done as much as Rogers did in his time in charge, either. I do really hope he pulls it off for us and becomes a great, but it wasn't that long a go that Rogers was being hailed as the messiah, and that didn't end to well.
I dont agree. We can support slight more wages but back in the day moores was a skin flint who whined about fees and we ended up buying more **** players and never really got it right
Nor me, I think he was chosen because he was a nailed on yes man and wasn't high profile enough to make himself appear more important than the club, unlike a couple of managers in a city not that far away from here.
I don't think Kennys first stint should be put to one side in this debate myself, overall what he won for this club as a player and manager puts him above the others but perhaps that is a diffrent debate.
I think I was first on here to call for Rodgers head and suggest that it wouldn't work (I even did a thread), I got some stick for it and then he almost won the league.
I just never thought his face fit. He was lucky we had Suarez who almost won the league for him and while I would have taken it, obviously, it would have been almost a travesty that the title would have been credited to Rodgers when the really great managers we had couldn't do it.
Rafa then Gerard. Klopp's start is promising but we haven't won anything yet. Way too early to put him up there.
Klopp has taken us to within 90 mins of two trophies in his first (most of a) season. Didn't win though
Aside from the football side of the debate there's also a side of Rafa and his wife Montse that gets overlooked, like Kenny and Marina with their charity work for cancer on Merseyside Mr and Mrs Benitez haven't left the area just because Rafa has changed clubs, they still have their home over on the Wirral and have done lots of charity work for underprivileged children on Merseyside. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/acts-generosity-show-rafa-montse-11987287 So for football and the other reasons stated above its Rafa for me.
1. Rafa 2. Houllier 3. Dalglish (one season, one trophy) 4. Klopp (looks promising but way to early and won nowt yet) 5. Rodgers (a phoney IMO) Stone cold last of everything: Roy Bloody Hodgson
Rodgers was crap from the very start. He got a little redemption during that run for 2nd but I remember thinking he was crap way back when.
