Best Spurs - Smithy, love his bluntness and the fact he can be so random on threads, he’s also been posting more on the Prem board and has been fitting in nicely . RCL a solid second. Best non-Spurs - Brunel, enjoyed the fact Arsenal have been ****ter than us so his posts are often moaning about them and that provides a small comfort. Bob’s also sound, good laugh. When Sucky ain’t on the Haribos, he’s also a geeza. Luke don’t count anymore by the way, he’s too much of a resident on the board to be considered ‘non-Spurs’. Best thread - can’t beat the transfer thread, we love the hype and excitement, the likes of HBIC, myself and one or two others scour the media links and build up hope of a signing but then see our dreams come crashing down. Then we repeat it all over again.
Best thread...match day thread by @PleaseNotPoll ... always excellent. Poster who should post more ... @maggie blanchflower ... always a great read. The mods make this a good board...funny, interesting, argumentative but always respectful. But in keeping with the messages of mental health for men at all the FA Cup matches this weekend I wanted to say that for the last 10 years this place has personally helped me cope with a lot of difficulties in my head because everyone is welcoming and kind. I have spoken about struggles coping with the loss of my son, childhood ****e as well as life of a dad with two girls living in a house with just women and shared stuff about the mini beasts I work with...it's a bit like having a a good local...you do not know everyone but when ever you turn up there is always someone to natter with. I have great kids and partner, a weird arsed psycho cat and 4 very good friends so have a lot but this place definitely adds to my life. Hope you all have a great 2020 Coys
As a visitor i'm not sure i ever read one of his posts without at least smiling but often laughing out loud . Weird but brilliant
You can see quite clearly RCL that we all value your contirbution to this site. That's a pretty powerful post and it makes me very glad I started this thread and voted for you as our best poster of the year. Keep up the good work mate.
Ungrateful bastard ! It does help that Spurf has one game to update scores for. Spent 2 hours updating the table for 40 odd games last night!!!!!
You invented your game just as I invented mine. You use computers and a spread sheet i think. I do mine the old way with pen and paper. Surely everyone knows by now that if you want to speed up the process and use less paper bin the computer and buy a pen.
I didn't invent it - someone (I forget who) used to do it on BBC site - I was a punter at the end of that site, but never for yours for reasons I don't recall. On this site my league was picked up first by HIAG but he'd do a few weeks and then decide winding up the Chelsea board was more fun, so I stepped in. To be fair he was right. It's a bit of a time commitment, but I like doing it as it seems to be the only way I get a mention on threads like this . I would take your advice on the pen and paper, but 10 fixtures a week (minimum) is a lot to tot up on paper. After 10 fingers and 10 toes I am struggling.
I picked up the league from someone who started and after about 4 weeks stopped. So I ran it until the end of season and then developed the scoring system to make it (I hoped) more interesting. That's why the first winner has a score much lower. I enjoy the process and seeing how the lead changes through the season. I am usually in the top 10 but I have never won my own league . It is luck of course but I think there is an element of skill and knowledge as well. Now we have players like RCL and OnlyOneDB who try to be last and hope their gods help Spurs to win. Like all games it reveals a little of the players characters as well.
Try as I might I cannot pick one poster of the year because I like them all at different times & for different reasons. I have a soft spot for Audrey & Smithy because they are both older than me & I am full of admiration for Audreys fantastic talent. To write those clever words week in & week out & fit them to lovely old tunes is amazing I'm also fond of Colin because he takes his daughter 'down the Spurs' regularly just as my Dad took me from 1947 and it evokes happy memories. He also does a very difficult job with troubled kids which takes a special kind of person. I'm fond of Spurf because when I finally plucked up courage to join ( I had been lurking for months) he welcomed me aboard & guided me on how to post my first message. I had never had a PC before, didn't have a clue what I was doing, still don't half the time I also like his calm intervention between heated disputes, full of common sense. I enjoy reading all the posts regularly, I think you are a great bunch of guys & thank-you for your tolerance & often nice remarks c o y s
