Iain Hesford wasnt bad like.... Best Sunlun keeper I've seen is the current one and best of all time has to be Schmiechel-- 90's onwards obviously tho.
Pearsy , Thomas and Hesford make a canny trio of overweight useless keepers though!!!!
We don't know how good we've got it now compared to 25 plus years ago. AGREED ?

I remember being in a pub in shincliffe playing pool with Iain hesford, there was 3 of us and hesford, we were all slightly drunk and one of my mates thought it would be a laugh to let down of of hesford's car tyres. Hesford didn't take it very well and kicked the crap out of my mate even using a pool cue. We got barred from the pub but hesford didn't. He went down in my estimation after that.

I hate when people talk about Yashin being the best goalkeeper of all time when they havn't seen him play 1 minute of football

Who knows how much of a legend Banksie could have been, goalkeepers have a longer career in football than the rest. shame about his accident, now we will never Know, Banksie for my world cup, but the SUDDICK lad for my pride, and my generation, even my ex missus adores him, she would pass him in the street mind.

I loved Monty, and he was a great keeper, however, in my opinion it has to be between Pat Jennings and Peter Smiechel for me.

Yes Monty was a great "quick reaction" goalkeeper but less good on crosses and those balls when he had time to think. Anyone else remember clearly?

I saw Lev Yashin (The Cat) play at Roker for Moscow Dynamo and I always rated him. Gordon Banks had amazingly quick reactions and would have been world No 1 had it not been for that awful accident. Monty was an excellent keeper, probably the best SAFC have had, but he was terrible with long range efforts along the ground. I saw Ivor Allchurch score a hat-trick of 30yd daisy cutters for Cardiff at Roker in the 60's!
