Think I was confusing it with normal Bass Charrington beer Shandy, which was in a blue tin, and which from memory was on sale to everyone at 2 percent proof.

Does anyone remember Ciderax or possibly Cyderax or Cydrax ? Maybe that was in the Orange can ?

shandy had to be much less than 2% less than 1% I believe.. I won a pack of 6 babycham at a local fete near Castle Cary in the fifties after 3 , I was falling around all over the place and thought I was dying, had to be held still whilst people put their fingers down my throat to make me sick.. then pouring in loads of water and repeating the process, eventually I went to sleep and woke up next day to an ear aching of monsterous proportions! no mobile phones in them days ..or on hand first aiders! think I was about 8 at the time!

Lit the wrong end innumerable time, usually while very very drunk and although I'm coming up to the 10th anniversary of me quitting, I can still remember the taste and smell of melting plastic or whatever nice materials they used to use in the filters !
    I think I need a drink....maybe some Babycham in fact......<laugh>

    Good man!
I only smoked ***s for 4 years between 1984 and 1988. I got my last cigarettes from a cafe in Paris overlooking the Notre Dame cathederal. They were Marlbro red. I had gone from John Player Blue over to Silk Cut in an attempt to cut down, but I had run out and the cafe only sold Marlbro or Camel so I chose Marlbro. Smoked a couple, then left the unfinished packet on my mantlepiece in the front room when I got back home. it stayed there for about 2 years before my mate asked me for them - they must have been horrible by then!

I rate giving up as one of my very few great achievements - plenty of people can't do it.

I too have had a couple of cigars at Christmas (about 3 in total since 1988) and when we went to Cuba, but to be honest I found them disgusting - they made my clothes smell and made my mouth taste like I had just eaten a dried cow-pat.

    And likewise here.

I cant believe how long I smoked for (over 30 years) and why I needed one as soon as I got up in the morning. Or why I smoked 40 (and often more) when I went out drinking, or before after flights/train journeys, meetings, meals etc.
It must have cost me tens of thousands of pounds

    It used to taste lovely.
Which probably means it was filled with colourings, stabilisers, preservatives etc <laugh>

Getting back to Mr Johnson I was listening to Radio 5 the other day when they talked about strange transfers and mentioned John Akinde who was apparently selling ice cream in a Cinema when we offered Ebbsfleet a fee which was accepted by a fans vote. It went on to say we offered him a three year contract at £1500 per week and a free flat for 6 months. He apparently started 16 games and scored once. However I am sure that the commentator said that he was somehow related to Johnson. Is this true seems strange to me?

That goal he scored was a mistake.
Akinde was being trained to miss and frustrate, before being sent under cover to the Gas!

I had just the one half hearted drag... I do feel for those people that try and try after failure after failure.. I stopped instantly.. had been without a *** for just over 10 hours been exploring underground mazes in Wales.. had a tin with 2 or 3 prepared and about 5 no6 or no10 took out a number* looked at it and thought **** it crushed it up put lid on and that was that! 2 packets of polos for a month or 2 done deal.

The hardest part is not giving up ! everytime you finish one you have ! its the starting again xx minutes later!

I was a smoker for less than 15 years but from 66 till 75 I had moved up to 3oz+ GV and about 40 + no 10 or no6 weekly, had about 200 tins for nails screws etc in my shed ...

    I also went 'cold turkey'.
I missed the smokes for about 2 months and craved them, but stayed strong.
Probably what helped was I was a bit gobby and boastful back then, so I bragged about stopping and then had to go through with it!
Funnily enough the hardest time for me was when driving - I always had a *** burning when driving - my cars were like ashtrays!!!

I stopped smoking in January this year after 35 years, like others I smoked loads out drinking or football etc but on average about 14 - 16 a day. I used Champex to give up and the side effects are depression and I didn't realise until my wife said I'm so negative and not happy since I started them. But looking back the moods lifted within days of finishing the course of them I can now understand even though I didn't get them but suicidle thoughts some people claim to get.

I've now got a vape cigarette which people in work say is like my dummy even though I don't smoke it during the day in the office I've got it in my mouth. For some reason even though I didn't smoke in the car I'm constantly puffing on the thing then?

I did waver on holiday as I found laying round doing nothing made me think of smoking so I sat close to people smoking to remember what I smelt like and I was fine then.

Not really hooked on the vape thing but I do constantly like to have it around me, probably still the figity hands syndrome.

And yes I've put on weight so that's the next thing for the new year!

Stick with it ROD - one day you'll suddenly realise you haven't thought about ciggies for several days and it will be leaving your psyche.
