Andy Harris (ex Leyton Orient and Southend, had a spell at Eastleigh a couple of years ago which is where I heard of him) is in MENSA and is a teacher, don't know about a degree. Steve Coppell has a a degree in something, too. EDIT: Economic history
In the intelligent footballer who "has something to fall back on" stakes, I think Andrea Figus might just pip it! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...geon-saves-builders-severed-hand-cut-saw.html
I believe Steve Highway and the other liverpool wing someone Hall both had university degrees and then of course there is old clever cloggs himself Garth Crooks who has worked hard at his higher education since giving up playing. I remember we had a full back who came to us as part of Chivers going to spurs called Jim someone or other (too lazy to look it up) who was called gentleman jim by the other players because he was so well educated and did the time crossword every day. Mind you they were the Ale House Brawler days so anyone who had fimished primary school would have been considered a genius by our players.
Who is the Burnley player who goes on day time telly doing word puzzle games? He is meant to be jolly clever.
Has anyone ever counted how many footballers have played for the two clubs..? It must run into 20 to 30 players, and that's excluding the likes of Bally, who managed both. I might look it up.
I knew about Shaka and that Dowie was eloquent but I didn't realise they both found time to do degrees, I'm not sure modern day footballers would be given such encouragement to do such a thing.
