It's not that I know more, but I don't know less. I can see if a striker shoots high and wide because he's off balance. Or if a defence is all over the place. They never say anything interesting. Hanson is okay, but don't get me started on that smug, boring, pointless c**t shearer!! And just because you were a great player, it doesn't neccessarily make you a great pundit. Just like it doesn't mean you'll be a great manager....
Absolutely. They are the most dull, drab, lifeless, boring pricks I've ever come across. And they're paid shed loads of money to be on there. Boring is the word mate. So so fu*king boring. Wouldn't you rather watch a few lads that are full of passion and have rows over the game? I know I would.
Plus everyone must know by now that motd, with the way they edit games and talk about certain teams are following some kind of agenda. How many times have we been to a game, then gone home and watched the highlights thinking "that's a bit one sided, we played better and had more chances than that". And they then talk about a performance you don't recognise?
they should speak the truth so if they had to describe jonathan walters performance against the scum, just say he played like a ****, end of
That "cu*t" was very nearly our player! COLIN had him on a medical yet he went to Sjoke last minute. COLIN had to ride his bike round Hyde park all night to get the anger out of his system!
The worst is when you have blatant cheating in a game like us at Old Trafford last year, and they wash over it or make half arsed excuses. It's after the watershed, so I'd love Hansen or someone to stand up and say he's a f**king cheat! No ifs, no buts, he's a f**king cheat! And if he'd done that against me I'd have kicked the s**t out of him! But it'll never happen, so I'll be more than happy to listen to the crowd instead. No one the world over can beat the British when it comes to wonderful intelligent funny songs and banter throughout a game...... ;-)
Agreed. No doubt about it. I'd push it one step further and say that there's no better sense of humour in the World. British comedy is the best there is bar none. Unfortunately football punditry ain't y'alls strong point!
I agree with what you say. the point i was trying to make was that in thier former careers the may have done drills, exercises training that allows them to see more clearly what a player should have done, could do or even could not have done? this would then give them a diffrent view of certain aspects of the game. Of course it will never make them always right, good managers or even good pundits but may give a diffrent view? I dont like them TBH but its intresting to hear what a decent ex-pro (ie Gary neville, Savage) has too say about certain instances, and more to the point, if they cant agree then our own match reports are never gone be exactly the same. just a thought?
I'm sure they have a bit of passion, but not everyone displays it in an aggressive manner You're just addicted to arguments, be it online or on TV xxxx
[l Whether you are a professional or amateur, the game is the same. It really isn't that complicated. They don't do anything that special in training, or have any secret knowledge beyond our own comprehension of games.
If Alan Shearer has passion, I'm afraid I can't see it. I'm sorry mate but British punditry is just so bloody boring. I'm not talking about aggression. What I'm asking is why don't the tough questions get asked like the way a Club is being run etc? They just trot out the same old sh*t week after week. Its turgid stuff.
Sorry, totally disagree with that. Are we saying that our knowledge is the same as SAF or Wenger or Pep ?!! No chance! If it was then why arent we all managing Barca, Real etc? Fact is (too many) supporters THINK they know as much about the game as players and top coaches, when in reality they dont. You only have to read diffrent forums to see that is blantantly obvious. Differing Views on Tarbs, Cisse, Green only prove this point further. im sure most managers out there have very similar views on these and many other players the point i was aiming at was attending the game, but if we think we know the same as the top managers then we are deluded...IMHO!? This isnt a dig at you by any means, just goes to explain diffrent views opinions and outlooks. PS..and possibly why SWP still gets a game every week !!
I think the problem is the pundits don't have the chance to say anything meaningful - they just have time to draw a big box in front of the back four - if it's empty then it's bad defending, if there's a striker in it then it's good movement. Fact is, it's rare to say anything contentious in a short statement. To really get into people's opinion, you need to give them a chance to speak at large. With ads, interviews and inside scoops of team camps it is impossible in the time allotted. It's the dumbing down of football analysis, sacrificed for a tabloid, soundbite based slick presentation. Soccer Saturday and the like offer more insight with some lively debate. Matt Le Tissier is worth listening to IMO.
I'll get by without the views of "I didn't see it" Wenger and "the referee was shocking" ferguson, cheers. You can put all these people up on a pedestal like gods, and treat their words as the gospel. I'll use my own eyes and mind to read a game......
Im not saying that mate at all. No point getting all defensive, just trying to debate a point with you Just saying that I'd bet my house on the fact Wenger, Pep, Mouriniho et al know more about the game than you or I do, otherwise we'd be in thier shoes (unless you have a very good & lucrative job that compares to thiers?) They are going to defend thier clubs, employers and jobs as you would in a high pressure job. Using your/our own opinions is fine and everyone has them, but, as when you get Ill dont you go to a hospital/ Specialist? Even though you think you know what the problem is? These blokes are the specialists in thier field of expertise, and to say that your view is as valid as thiers really doesnt hold any water what-so-ever. I know we've side tracked from the commentators thing, but with respect to them they are/were the specialists in thier own fields too. So therefore by definition, they must know more than US- the average supporters. Now I read a lot of your posts Mac, and they are always well written with a lot of intelligent information in them (even the ones slateing Swords) so I by no means think you are an idiot. I think you need to maybe asses your/our level of knowledge against that of the qualified specialist managers at the top of the tree, and accept they know more than us. it doesnt make us stupid, just not as clever as we think WE are. PS..the commontaters do talk a lot of s**t though & I think Matt has addressed that point. Thats my opinion anyway ?!
Last week Jon Champion stated the obvious in his commentary and called Suarez a cheat, he got a bollocking from his employers. That says more than anything...
Obviously they have a code of conduct, rules and probably favouritism and agendas dependent on location and what team is being shown. TBH , a club like ours doesnt generate anywhere near the viewing figures of man utd, chelsea etc so to expect us to get equal viewing is niave at best Pont is that 99% ofmanagers know more than us..with hughes being the exception ! The vast majority of ex-prem players do too..even if they cannot or are not allowed to put it into words. To expect someone like neville to give a balanced view on a club like liverpool where he received so much **** is just stupid. The problem comes when supporters convince themselves they all know better than the manager. thats what starts the rot. i suppose we all know beeter than HR so any comments he makes can be taken with a pinch of salt !?
