I beg to differ. For me the best song today was "Gareth Bale eats bananas with his feet" (to the tune of Yellow Submarine). Admittedly, it didn't spread much beyond R Block. Oh, and the worst song of the day came from some utter bells in Q Block singing about the Togo national team bus shooting (directed at Adebayor). A joke's a joke and some of the best ones are near the knuckle. But that's just horrible, mean-spirited nastiness.
The Adebayor stuff was horrific. Some bellends behind me also started chanting about Defoe's brother being shot. Shamefully I did little more than look back with disgust. There are some people who you dont want to antagonise any further.
All clubs have some proper goons. We have ours. I've never forget one tit boasting about his favourite song of last season. Click to enlarge the little pic below. Then read it and weep.
Spurs didn't help themselves by singing about "Yids". I wouldn't expect anything less from Q block tbh - should be removed during close season.
I daresay you know the complexities around non-Jewish Spurs fans branding themselves Yids. I absolutely do not buy the BS explanation that's always given and wish they'd stop singing it.
Couldnt make out what was being said to Adebayor - if thats true its a disgrace. We do have some mindless idiots.
I was close enough to be able to quote exactly. "Adebayor, Adebayor. He used to like coach trips. He don't any more."
thanks for clearing it up mate - that is a disgraceful chant. I thought we were better than that, but recent events including the abuse for ben haim on facebook sickens me. (although apparently the ben haim stuff was from our 'new' fans in asia?)
ThisIsEngland, yes I do know enough about it to wonder why they sing it? It's like they are being racist to themselves, if fans from other teams were to sing about it then Spurs would be the first to complain.
I'd tone it down a bit if I were you SBR. After our last game against Spurs I made similar enquiries and ended up with a one month ban. Thread carefully mate.
WE are better. A few ignorant tools in Q Block do not form any part of what I mean when I use the word "we". Re: this idea about the abused directed at Ben Haim coming from places in Asia, be advised that Israeli citizens are not permitted to visit Tony Fernandes's home country. Should Ben Haim stay with us into next season, he'd have to be left behind if a repeat pre-season visit to Malaysia is planned.
I've heard a few Spurs fans sing it before he joined us. Every stadium will have some idiots that don't know where the line is, unfortunately. That's the point. Before we sang the chants we were the subject of wide range of anti-semitic abuse from fans across the country. What were we supposed to do, sit on our hands and stay silent? The way we decided to deal with it was to turn 'Yid' and 'Yiddos' into a badge of honour that we all rally around, not many of our fans are Jewish but instead of allowing them to be abused we decided to stand with them and our club's Jewish heritage. It was more than that as I'm sure you're aware.
