Containing quite possibly my favourite guitar solo of all time on Love. How to use a wah wah pedal by Billy Duffy.
My Top 5, (not including greatest hits) are The Band-The Band Shotgun Willie-Willie Nelson Rubber Soul-The Beatles The Gilded Palace of Sin-The Flying Burrito Brothers Tapestry-Carole King
I am a fan of The Beatles so most of my favourite albums are Beatle related. Some of my favourite albums Include Abbey Road- The Beatles Sgt. Pepper- The Beatles All things must pass- George Harrison Volume 1 -Traveling Wilbury's I also like White album by the Beatles Mainly for this track featuring Eric Clapton on Lead Guitar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3RYvO2X0Oo also for this track because I thought it seemed quite heavy for the Beatles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av4x6nZlefc
Buffalo Springfield - Again Neil Young - After the Goldrush Sly & the Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden
All things must pass would be right up there, but I think Spector overproduced it. Same with Let it Be, listen to Paul's version (Naked i think it's called), it's so much better. Talking of the White Album, have you seen this with John and Clapton. Although Yoko should STFU
...the backwards version in the related links sound pretty cool The Beach Boys getting heavy also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5C-7hYSY6cw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9a1NhRbNJ_Y Gave this a listen again today, Can were such a great band... way ahead of there time, so hard to believe this was recorded in 71!
Welcome Back My Friends to the Show That Never Ends... Ladies and Gentlemen, Emerson, Lake and Palmer is good bedtime music.
This is such a great thread because it's reminded me of so much good stuff that I'd completely forgotten about. That track by the Band is an absolute classic, Duckhunter.
Top 5 for me: Metallica - Master of Puppets Stone Sour - Come What(ever) May Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare Slayer (Can't decide Between Season in the Abyss and Reign in Blood) Metallica - S&M I have a wide range of music tastes and I also love Rizzle Kicks (Stereo Typical), Example (Playing in the Shadows), Newton Faulkner (Hand-Built by Robots), Katy B (On A Mission) and LMFAO (Party Rock/Sorry for Party Rocking)
Oh you can't compare Love with Ziggy, I quite agree. I just think it's been more influential and is a better album than it's given credit for. Somewhat the band's fault for going all cock-rock afterwards (and the British press have always hated them).
Ah Sly & The Family Stone, good shout. The finest voice (possibly ever) and my favourite song of all time, If You Want Me To Stay. Kind of unfair on everyone else that vocal. Can't remember who it was, but someone mentioned Free here - if you're a Free fan, you should have a listen to Paul's son, Steve Rogers. He looks and sounds EXACTLY like his dad! Quite uncanny.
They're a great band nonetheless and arrived on the scene at the right time. Made some great poprock singles as well- Rain,Edie etc etc. Did anyone else ever look as cool as Duffy and his White Gretsch. (Well apart from Malcolm Young) Another great album from start to finish of that period was Misplaced Childhood by Marillion. Beautiful. Fish really is a poet. I recommend wholeheartedly to anyone who may have passed this album by. If you like 'Kayleigh' -the rest is even better
