Benzema, 23, may be available this summer as Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho looks to shake-up his squad to fund a move for Manchester City's Carlos Tevez.

Wenger said: "Viewed from the outside, it doesn't seem impossible today. He's a player that I like.

"I think he's intelligent in his movement, I think he is capable of combining well and making a difference, and of doing individual moves as well. So, for me he's a player who's at the top level in the world."

Wenger has insisted he will be active in the transfer window this summer but has already warned he will shy away from "£50m signings" and Arsenal would have to shatter their transfer record and pay around £20m for Benzema.

What would you guys think of this?

I like Benzema...
But he seems to drift outwide most of the time these days - probably down to Real's system and Jose using similarly to how he used Eto'o at Inter...
He's quick, Strong, good technique..
He's like a cross between Anelka and Hulk imo...

He's been used less as a vocal point of Madrid's team, but links up the play well - so would have no trouble fitting n with Arsenal's passing game.
Alot of his youthful creativity and willingness to try to beat men has been stemed out of him since joining Madrid though.
Back in his Lyon days he used to shot from anywhere and try to really beat people and really make things happen...

He would make a good signing to your squad..but you have enough 'link it up' type players, you need a poacher.
Like you said Higuan would probably fit your needs more than Benzema.

Overrated. He misses more than he scores.

I'd rather have Falcao.

Why do people always use the word "overrated"?
How is he overrated?
Overrated means "rated too highly" or "appraised too highly".

No-one rates him any higher than he is... Eveyone calls him a good striker, nothing more nothing less.
No-one puts him up there with Messi or Ronaldo..

Hope we get him! With Bendtner looking to move, if we get Benzema in, I can only see that as progressing! He could be the goal-scorer we have been looking for :)

I've never rated Benzema but he keeps getting linked to Man Utd. I hope he joins another club instead, please Arsenal do us a favour and sign this hugely overrated waste of space.

But he's not a good striker.....

But he's not a good striker.....

How?
I know he's not a world beater..
But how is he not good?

He has a good record, good technique, and can play..

35 goals in 81 games for Real
101 goals in 231 club games
12 goals in 35 games for France

Fair enough if you don't rate him..
But nobody actually overrates him...No-one puts him up there with the worlds best..There are dozens of strikers who people rate more highly..

I agree 4231, you certainly wouldn't describe him as overrated. I think he would be a great signing for us as it looks like he will leave.

If we bought Benzema, I think my sperm would go into overload mode.

Sorry Kamran, but Benzema is better than Falcao because he's proven, whereas Falcao, though his European record is just insane, he's done well in a league that can be equated to the Scottish Premier League, and frankly, I'd rather have Benzema over Falcao, also purely because of personal preference.

That being said, Benzema tends to drift in and out of games and can be too inconsistent at times.

I certainly wouldn't say no to him at Arsenal, though.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you Samir. Benzema has played for Lyon and Real Madrid all his career. Lyon and Madrid are two attacking teams who create chances for fun. Benzema has a decent record for both clubs because he always gets chances, and he's bound to take a few of them. He actually misses more than he scores.

Falcao just scores. If you give him a chance, he won't miss.

I guess it's just a matter of personal opinion and I just think Falcao is miles ahead of Benzema.

Kamran

Doesn't matter which team you play for, every team will create chances, and Benzema has been composed enough to finish a lot of the chances that has come his way. He's certainly not one of the best strikers in the world, but he's better than all of Arsenal's current strikers, bar van Persie, and he would strengthen us up front, by a large margin. He's scored 26 goals in 48 games and has 9 assists - that isn't bad for a player who's also come off the bench quite often and you have to bear in mind that he is only 23. He still has years left and we could improve him as a player. Benzema's not afraid of running at players, he has a superb technique, he's quick, he's dexterous, his link-up play and long range shots are also top notch. Great player, but certainly not the finished article.

Falcao has done well in a very poor Portuguese league that can be equated to the SPL. The quality of football and the standard of defending in that league is abysmal. If Falcao went to Madrid, would Benzema be out of favour to Falcao or would Benzema start ahead of Falcao?
Hmm...

A player who's shone out in one of the worst leagues in Europe or a player who's had an excellent second season with one of the top five football teams in the world?

I know which player I'd have!

It does matter which team you play for Samir. Which team creates more chances Arsenal or Wigan? If you play for a top team which creates a whole bag of chances every game, you're bound to get a few goals. Benzema is lacking in loads of departments imo. One of the departments he lacks in is finishing. He misses a lot of chances and we just have too many players like that. We don't need another one.

Falcao on the other hand, has also played for clubs which create chances all of his career. But he's different. If you give him a chance he WILL score. He's just the type of player we need.

Like I said, i guess it's just a matter of opinion and I just prefer Falcao.

You should buy Benzema over Falcao because everyone has heard of him and he has experience in top clubs, so coming over to Arsenal would give him a chance to lead an attack (with RVP) for once instead of just being there helping others.

Also the majority of strikers miss more than they score. People like Hernandez who score more than he misses only do that because he has about two shots in a game.

I quite rate Benzema..

But he isn't a poacher, and has never played like a poacher...
From what I've seen of him he tends to drift into Van Persie-like positions...But imo what Arsenal need is someone who will play on the last man.
Arsenal play infront of teams for the majority - at times this gets predictable, so they need someone to stretch and turn the centrebacks.
Arsenal have no problem moving the ball about- they just need a ruthless 'goal hanger'.

Falcao is not as likely to get involved from deep and create play...
But he appears to be more clinical, and he would probably mop up all the chances that Arsenal seem to miss at times.
A positive of Benzema is that he actually attempts shots from outside of the box.

Both of them would make a decent improvment on what you have, but they offer different things.
I think Benzema is more of an Wenger-type of signing, but it's time you made other types of signings <ok>

Theo Walcott anyone?
