Spurs have allowed the 27-year-old to leave on loan as he is well down the pecking order at White Hart Lane.

The former Arsenal trainee, who joined Tottenham from Blackburn in a £15million deal in the summer of 2008, found first-team opportunities in short supply at White Hart Lane under then-manager Harry Redknapp over the last two campaigns and has not played for Spurs since November 2010.

Bentley had a spell on loan at West Ham last season before a serious knee injury curtailed his stay at Upton Park.

A number of clubs are thought to have expressed an interest in taking Bentley on loan, but the England international has decided to take up the opportunity to move to Russia with Rostov.

Bentley is the second new face at Rostov after former Liverpool striker Florent Sinama Pongolle joined the club on a free transfer earlier this week.

Bizarre place to go in my opinion, but at least it gets him off the wage bill <ok>

David Bentley has gone to Russian side FC Postov until at least January.

This is a real come down for a player who at one time looked as if he would be one of the stars of the Premier League. Unfortunately, he quickly believed in his own hype and has spent the past few seasons earning his high wages under false pretences. We are well rid of him.

Bentley is co-owner of a bar/club in Puerto Banus and seems keener to jet out there to oversee his business interests than to knuckle down and fight for a first team with us.

I have no idea at what standard he will be playing at, but there can be no doubt he has ballsed up an opportunity to make it in the English game. Such a shame when we see talented players fall by the wayside.

    Glad he's gone.

Probably the worst bit of business done by Spurs ever signing him for £15million.

For some reason, he comes across as really unlikeable as well.

A mid table Russian side??... putting himself in their shop window! <whistle>

He'll have one friend there, Stipe Pletikosa is their keeper.

He'll actually know one of their players personally, strangely.
Former fellow Spurs bench warmer and Croatian number 1 Stipe Pletikosa signed for them last season.

Russia in January! That'll make the ****er run around a bit for a change!. Seriously, why has he not been sold long ago? Cut our losses, and get his wage bill off our books.

    Sell him to who?

Nobody is going to pay money for a waste of space like David Bentley and I don't blame them. It looks like we're stuck with him. His contract must be up soon surely?

There have been interested parties, in the last couple of seasons. I can only think that the waste of space won't go, because the wages don't compare to what he's on with Spurs.
