mclaren should just retire norris. that's an absolute stupid stop. they all know its going to rain. he's on hards and why stop and just end up absolutely last
perez so poor. the next 3 are nowhere near each other. Russell and stroll the only fun and gaspy coming through now. come on the rain.
rain was a damp squib. nobody has even had the good grace to park one and induce us a safety car to bring this field together.
Guys these last two years haven’t been good at all have they. We were promised this close racing and closer following. All I can see for the majority is DRS breeze-bys. Dire stuff to watch.
It's clear it's not working. They really should consider dropping DRS. In some ways it's actually preventing racing and passing when you wind up with a DRS train and when it does work it's just way too powerful. Either that or just limit how many times a driver can use it.
it was working. they are closer to each other but it is being negated by aero again. I can only think of two or three things now. a) drs gone b) power boost buttons only for overtaking and limited. battery deployment should be automatic round the track with this use in defence stuff gone. c) cars are too wide and too long. the end. they have to reduce the size.
The size part I totally agree with. They really need to get these cars smaller and more agile again. I would really like to see DRS phased out. Maybe try it with the sprint races and get a look at how things play out without it in those. An overtake should be something that has some excitement and jeopardy to it. The vast majority are simply a formality.. I'd rather see no overtaking that the sailing by we have in most cases. An IndyCar style overtake system could be an ideal replacement that could be used to either attack or defend with a finite usage limit. As for the gap to Red Bull at the front. The other teams just need to get their poop in a pile for that one.
They have exaggerated this a bit , but it was. DIFFERENT . https://talksport.com/sport/motorsport/1516005/formula-1-drivers-belgian-national-anthem/amp/ Everyone around us was either keeping quiet out of respect , or giggling / laughing ! Anither funny thing . All the drivers appeared to have a young Boy with them as dirt if mascot . They all gave their driver a high-five , except the young lad at the end . He really didn’t want to , but did in the end . Amonsos expression was brilliant .
One last thing . I knew the cars would be quieter than in 1998 , but I honestly didn’t expect them to be quieter than the Porsche super cup cars
Alonso cracked me up in that. Best part of the race other than the spice between max and his engineer.
One of the best sounds in F1 was the old Ferrari and Honda v12s. Absolutely deafeningly loud. You didn't so much hear them as feel them.
They were unbelievable loud. They didn't sound like cars, more like some screaming banshee that kicked you in the chest as she passed through every fiber of you. I completely understand that the sport and technology has to move on, and what they do with the technology these days is quite amazing given the speeds they still reach today, but God I do miss those beasts that the drivers had to somehow tame. Especially before the days of the semi-auto box. Hope you had a fun weekend man. Very envious!
I’m envious that I never heard those engines . Typical me though , been interested in F1 ever since John Watson won the British GP in 1981 , never went to an until 1996 . Two things I REALLY WANTED . A- Mrs J to enjoy the experience , she did B- Entertaining Race Ah well ….,
I think you could make an argument for worse brakes too. Double the length of the braking zone and being 1% better on the brakes than the driver you're overtaking makes a bigger difference. DRS could definitely be weakened, with an aim of phasing it out entirely. It's a real shame how overtaking prowess has been devalued, and tyre management is a much more important skill these days. The art of setting up an overtake 3 corners in advance has been replaced by "just wait for the DRS zone and blast by". These ground effect regs have messed up wet racing, and haven't delivered a significant improvement in close following unfortunately. If the dirty air problem is indeed better, we never see the benefits of it because DRS stops battles from developing.
Yes I found that at Silverstone- the Porsche super cup cars have a bit of oomph to them (although not exactly the most beautiful sounding!). I found the F1 cars (and F2) are loud if you get on ground level with them, but if you’re in a stand the sound doesn’t particularly carry well at all.
Interesting to see that even the Verstappen RedBull was impacted by the DRS train effect. My feeling on DRS has been that while it needs continual tuning it’s a necessary evil, given the cars are so aerodynamically efficient. Seeing even the grid’s superior driver/car combo be stuck for a few laps does rather ram the problem home. I did think the action in the mid grid was a bit better in this race and the TV director did at least seem to focus on that more than normal. McLaren watch: poor setup choice for the Sunday it seems, Norris did well to recover to a decent position. Piastri will have learned - as so many drivers have before - that the inside of La Source is best avoided on the first lap. It’s nice to already know we are coming back to Spa next year, but it remains a privilege to watch F1 cars at this track, I live in hope it continues…
