We looked good, it was against a team much lower in the pyramid than us but it's early days.
there is a lot to be optimistic about, just need to try and keep expectations realistic.
A lot of teams in our league are spending big money and will have strong teams, hopefully our freebies will be up there competing.

Well said grumpygit -- we need to see how we fare against better quality opposition - such as Millwall , Southend and Charlton ( hoping that our 'friendly' will last longer than Charlton's game a few days ago - which was abandoned after 49 minutes when all hell let loose when the referee sent off a couple of the opposition ).

We also need to remember that ( no disrespect intended ), Faversham wasn't ever going to be a threat to a Gills win - and - that a couple of years ago we scored freely in our pre-season friendlies against non-league sides - including 12 against Chatham --- and we still went on to struggle to avoid relegation.
----maybe the goal we conceded will have taught us more than the 9 we scored !

I am hopeful of better things this season - but realistic enough to know that it's not going to be easy ( win, draw or lose ).

Parrett and Rees were both missing from the squad at Faversham, are these the players that SE said don't figure in his plans?
